Sigh. Please prove me wrong.

Fast bouncy pitch so let’s pick someone who is half fit to skid it through with little conviction, slowly losing his pace and spending a few overs bowling at the middle of the bat.

Picked on wishful thinking. Someone is hoping he morphs into Simon Jones overnight and starts reverse swinging the old ball.

Sigh.

Our bowling attack certainly doesn't look like one that can win a series in Australia.

I honestly thought that Mark Wood was going to be the man to do it for us, with a bit of inspiration from Stokes.

Sigh.

Still can't wait though!

Toby Roland Jones would have been handy down under also I suspect

Bowling does look our weak link. If Broad and Anderson fail to perform, we are toast

Losing Stokes is a big blow

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

TRJ is a bit too much of a trundler - great in English conditions, but I don't think he'd have found so much help in Oz.

At least if Ball gets it right, we'll get some bounce, which might be a bit different to Broad, Anderson and Woakes.

I'm more worried about our batting if I'm honest. If we can make big scores, then we can frustrate Australia, and virtues of bowling tight will come in. But if we're chasing the game, then that bowling attack will struggle.

I'd have thought Craig Overton would have been ideal at the Gabba.

Well, Jamie Overton would have been ideal if he was ever fit.

In terms of injured players I wish were available, Mark Wood is pretty much top of my list.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Mark Wood is not injured - he's in Oz with the Lions. Was bowling at the test squad this week, and by all accounts looking pretty sharp. Money on him being in the test squad by Perth.

Ah, excellent. I knew he had been injured, but not that he was recovered and playing again.

Not so sure that Wood has it in him to play much test cricket given his injury problems and his rise in the one day format he'll probably be seen as a one day specialist who can also add something during a home test series.. Can't see him being overly effective in AUS

As for Ball, very happy about this. Until his injury had been the pick of the bowlers on tour and was looking very sharp. A 6ft5 pace bowler who is consistently hitting off stump in the high 80's will be stifle most batting line ups. The question is whether the bowlers work well enough as a unit to apply enough pressure to force the Asusies to go searching for runs.

I guess it's funny how we read things a little differently. I think that Wood's extra pace might be more suited to the conditions in Australia, whilst most of our bowlers are better in home conditions. I also thought Jake Ball averaged low to mid-eighties but admit that I've not seen that much of him.

I didn't realise that Wood was as recovered as he is so he might have a useful role in the last couple of tests.
