For all his faults, a more genuine bloke you won't meet. 11:17 - Apr 11 with 228 viewsblaggers

All the ins and outs have been well documented, and that's water under the bridge, but my lasting positive memory of Mick is when we took a group of underachieving boys from my school over to Playford Road to have a look around the academy, as a reward for good behaviour and making progress. We were shown around by the then head of education, who told us categorically to be silent as we walked past the training pitch as McCarthy was leading the morning session. We sat and watched for about 5 minutes before Mick left the players to come over to our group, shook every boy's hand and had a chat with each one about the importance of hard work and effort in all walks of life. This was unprompted and spontaneous, and left a real mark on the lads that came along.

Contrast that to Keane who completely blanked us a few years previous.
