That’s interesting. I had wondered what all these forks are actually used for. iGaming you say?

Transaction speeds are one of the biggest crypto issues. Btc can take four hours; Ethereum takes about 14 seconds. Through forking, you can address issues with latency and throughput, creating near-instant transaction speeds with off-chain protocols. iGaming is our first platform as it's a money-spinner and huge in Asian markets. But the real technology lies in these instantaneous transactions as you'd rightly expect with any payment platform nowadays.

What I don’t understand is how you generate demand for your currency. I get the speed element although there must be questions about security. Anyway, good luck and hope you are rich soon!

Do you remember the Father Ted episode where Jack's taught two phrases: 'Yes' and 'That would be an ecumenical matter'? That's how I feel about my job. I'm a socialist technophobe and here I am talking all this tech capitalist hoo-ha on a daily basis. Still, goes to show if you can learn the slick lingo people won't delve much deeper.

Demand is a very good point. I mean ultimately it's marketing. Fiat currencies require belief. Humans have used shells, silver, animals and god knows what to represent value. If people believe it to be valuable, it is. Just marketing that belief. Security is the one main benefit of any blockchain platform. The anonymity and cryptography are second-to-none, so every smart contract contracted over the platform is verified and validated by ever user on the network almost immediately. Ha! I won't be rich any time soon. None of our competitors seem to be anyway! [Post edited 16 May 2018 17:49]

Clearly I need to know both having never forked before . However, a quick Google has taught me everything I'm ever likely to know.

Am at work, cannot risk Googling. I have learnt my lesson since being fired from my last position. As an amateur Ornithologist, I learnt there were a large number of birds you should not ever, EVER, Google at work.

That’s pretty much all I know. Well that and the fact that I should have listened to an ex colleague of mine, who’s also an amateur bitcoin miner, when he recommended I invest back in 2014. £20k worth of investment back then would have netted me a tidy profit

Crypto on 18:22 - May 16 by DanTheMan | See now I'm getting confused between a git fork and then the different type of cryptocurrency forks. Although having a quick read suggests the two are kind of related. I'm interested to see whether the bubble will burst with this, or indeed if it is a bubble. [Post edited 16 May 2018 18:25]

I think people need to get away from cryptos per se as they are all potential bubbles. The distributed ledger technology that underpins cryptos, however, is certainly not a bubble and could well be the future of transacting. Forget transaction fees, forget KYC/AML legislation, improve trust and transparency- seems a no brainer but things slowly start to be gaining serious traction.

Blockchain? Yeah that's interesting and I can see the technology having uses other currency (for example I know that energy companies are looking into it for trading). Even then though, I'm seeing a lot of developers using it for silly things where it is not necessary just due to hype. Similar thing happened when "cloud" popped up but that's settled down a bit now. You also see it where people want to use AI or Machine Learning for things where they aren't necessary or useful. I'm interested to see where it all goes as a developer, but I'm always a little cautious of jumping on the bandwagon too early. I'll be sticking with a good old fashioned database for a bit and wait for the tech to mature.

Absolutely right. People are utilising blockchain just to make their product/service 'hip'. Most concepts actually work FAR better on a centralised database. But it might not surprise you to learn that we're also involved in AI/Machine learning to better understand users' preferences. There's so much hype that you have to take everything in that space with a shovel of salt. That also makes me a bit paranoid about my employers (who are incidentally mates and old work colleagues!) and their vision for the future. Too easy to get caught up. I'll be remaining as sceptical as ever!

There's actual words in English, just not in kind of sensible order.
