Cricket. Malinga... on 08:52 - Oct 13 with 1583 views | Dyland | It's a very difficult action for bowlers to get used to, but nothing illegal about it. He could bowl underarm too if he liked.

Cricket. Malinga... on 09:09 - Oct 13 with 1563 views | christiand | There’s nothing wrong with it, it’s legal and he is a top operator. Even with his fiver for, England have got 60 runs too many for Sri Lanka! [Post edited 13 Oct 2018 9:24]

Cricket. Malinga... on 09:15 - Oct 13 with 1551 views | gordon | Yes, basically. His bowling arm is straight. And It's a lot harder to bowl accurately with like that, he's not getting away with anything.

I thought I might be. :) Peeps who have said he has a straight elbow. It's not completely straight, is it? Is there a certain flexibility (no pun intended) that's allowed by the ICC?

He’s been around so long that the ICC would’ve picked him up far earlier to test out his action, like they did with Murali. Yes, his action is unorthodox, but it’s legal. He can bowl those full deliveries at will, he’s a joy to watch when bowling like he was this morning.

In a different way, also Peter Siddle steaming in. I saw Morne Morkel close up practicing on the pitch during lunch in a one dayer at the Oval this summer. Scary.

The rules were changed in 2000, underarm balls are now illegal unless agreed otherwise before the start of the match. Round-arm bowling, as per Malinga, is perfectly ok, as long as the arm does not pass below the level of the shoulder.
