Thoughts on the today 22:35 - Jan 1 with 1188 viewsCraig

Morning from New Zealand a few thoughts on today's game which I haven't seen mentioned. First half brilliant agree with Lambert we should have been up by a lot more at half time. Great to see Kenlock looking like a proper left back, managed to always get back to try and break down the play on the left and didnt let half as many crosses into the box as Knudson does, shows what happens when you get on your bike and make the effort as a full back. Jordan Spence needs to improve seems to saunter back when he is caught far forward so it's no wonder there a lot of space down his side in both halfs if the game.

Second half was shambles, we need to have a plan b. That was the difference today. Millwall recognised we ain't a physical team and changed it, hoofball but it worked. Lambert has said it himself we just ain't physical enough. The game plan seemed to go out the window with too many wayward passes, then tried to play more long balls instead of staying patient. Why would we bother trying to play long if Lambert has already stated we are not physical enough to play that game? One of Luke Chambers comments after the Middlesbrough game shows the crack in the mentality, something along the lines of every mistake leads to a goal. Every goal was a mistake, the players are terrified and as soon as the Spence mistake happened I think we all got the feeling of here we go again and the effort to get back into the game disappeared.

From here with Kenlock having two solid performances Emmanual should be recalled and give him a shot at right back, I know it adds more inexperience to the team but Spence mistake alone today really changed the game, as well as not offering much going forward. Secondly we need a plan b if it means we have to play Micks brand of football or ball keeping to open gaps, I dont know but today was blatantly clear we are running out of ideas. I know we have been waiting for the transfer window to bring in players but we need to have a plan b with the players we have got as there is no guarantee we are going to get the players we need. Positives are the first half performance some of the best football I have seen in a long time. I'm not gonna write us off until it is mathematically impossible but I am not feeling confident at all. Those are saying we need to start rebuilding for league one we cant do that without having a plan b when things start to go wrong or we will be looking down the barrel of a similar situation in a years time.

I thought that, apart from that horrible mistake, Spence was pretty good today, especially creating things going forward. Several decent attacking runs.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Better in the first half going forward, made a good run bringing it in field but defensively still lacking, compaired to Kenlocks performance who looked hungry and working hard up and would like to see the same from Spence. Spence needs to be busting it to get back but didnt see it after getting forward. Chambers and Pennington made equally as awful mistakes today but Spences was the most deflating

that always seems to be the case with him; APART from the mental-lapses and game-losing mistakes he does alright.

I am not sure Emmanuel is any better than Spence - he isn't even getting in the Shrewesbury team right now and from the games I have seen him play, he also has a mistake in him

I don't think Lambert will recall any of them - and even if he does (Nydam and Morris need to be playing more) then they are not the answer as he said yesterday - he wants experienced players

Good assessment, not sure on the Emmanuel siuation, he isn’t even first choice at Shrewsbury right now, hasn’t been for many a week.

Poll: Would love to know the opinions on here now of Lambert genuinely?

Attacking runs but no attacking threat, he had two crosses second half didn’t beat his first man and then wonders back pondering about the universe.

Whilst I don’t think he was drastically poor either, it is another error from him. We can’t keep going “well he was good other than the error”. It’s a complete contradiction.
