Most of our goals conceded this season have been from defensive or midfield mistakes.

Did the presence of Collins help in that department? And were we more solid as a defensive unit?

Do you mean "Most of the goals we have conceded" rather than "Most of our goals"?

Collins was immense and we generally looked much more solid. On the whole we weren't great but our defending, which we did lots of, decent today.

One word answer: Collins.

But also Pennington, as much as no one really wants him playing full back, he was immense. I lost count of the times he flicked a header out the other side or for a corner. Better positionally than Spence and braver too.

He was good and I like having him in the side but ‘immense’ he was not.

Defensively we benefited from having Pennington at RB as well as Collins at CB, given that Rotherham conducted an aerial bombardment in the second half. Our inability to retain the ball is a huge concern, and numerous occasions we lacked composure when we did get the chance to break (Sears, I’m looking at you particularly) but perhaps a little more time wotking with new teammates will see that improve. - let’s hope so

I find it hard to see how anyone who has seen our defence before and after today could see Collins' impact as anything but immense

This

different class to what we have had before

He is not even match fit yet, proper tough CB, just what we needed

Oh he was good, on par with Chambers but not at the energy and tempo of Pennington.

He will get better, hurt his back second half which he struggled with but did great.

Tempo is not always an important skill with CBs, for through and through defensive centre halves it is more about positioning than pace - Collins has tempo and energy, though has proven he's not consistent for us in that role.

This is bang on. The amount of times a Spence gets caught out of position is just painful, that combined with being slow to close his man down and let crosses come in is a lethal combination.

Whilst Pennington isn't going to provide much attacking threat with him and Collins in the team will we definitely be better defensively
