So by some miracle we close the gap to 4 next Saturday 21:53 - Jan 20 with 1882 viewsGerkensBeard

What are people saying then?
Rotherham have a horrendous run in.
It’ll be Reading that most likely survive out of the 4.
You’ve gotta play the situation. Can see 4th bottom being on as little as 40 points. The teams around us can’t buy a win. If we even had a midtable run of form we could get out of this.

Lol.

Even the most diehard Town fan will say as much as they enjoyed watching Town beat Rotherham the other Saturday,it was backs against the wall defending and the fact Rotherham couldn’t hit a barn door on the day why we won.

Down we go I’m afraid.

We need a few thaumaturgic results to survive. With Villa, we somehow need to hang on until the 90th minute and then they score a calamitous own goal. A repeat like at Swansea needed (we got absolutely battered then steal the 3 points). If results went our way and the gap was cut to 4, fans and players alike would start to believe again. Nerves would start to rattle in the 3 teams above us and we might just stand a chance. If we got 7 points from the next 3 games we may stand a chance of surviving the drop. That's wins against Villa and Wednesday and a draw at Norwich. Seems unlikely though.

It's fortunate for us that there are three other awful teams in the division this year that kind of keeps us in with a chance. To be on 18 points after 28 games and 'only' 7 points adrift is incredible really.

Absolutely, we should be cut adrift by now even more than we are.

We really need Reading and Bolton to draw next week, ideally.

But i maintain those two and Rotherham will be worse than us over the course of the season. We need to put wins together though. It's crazy looking at the table now and seeing Bristol city and Hull just outside the play off places when you think where they were in december.

Reading and Rotherham are both finishing above us, Bolton we might possibly overtake.

There is no evidence at all that we can put together a run like Hull or Bristol City, we just do not have the quality.

Give it up, we are as good as down.

Unfortunately that suggested 4 point gap is not permanent. We could slip back again.

What is needed is for us to be able to grind out points as much as possible. Something that seems unlikely if we cannot score away from home. The last time being Nov. 10th

To keep us on track we need a point at Villa, a win v Weds and a draw at least at the scum. 5 points and if the other three stay on course they will pick up 2 points over those games. We close the gap by 3 points.

But we need to start doing that on a regular basis. Wins against the likes of Rotherham are great and welcome, but are of little use if we are not picking up points elsewhere.
