"Imagine being a heterosexual white male in Britain at this moment. How bad is that. Everything you say is racist, everything you say is homophobic. The Woke community have really f****d this country."
and Jeremy Hunt kicked that into the long grass on the Today program.
Look, if the NHS can procure better, cheaper, products from the USA then why not?
Is that bad?
I'm not talking services, just product.
Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me.
Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing.
Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial.
Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid.
Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.
Of course not but it would be naive to think that Brexit and those who voted for Brexit are responsible for the NHS being privatised. Hospital Corporation of America and Tenet Healthcare were forging partnerships with the NHS way before the Brexit vote - US Insurance companies have also been in the mix for a while now too.
The irony of this is that those who voted for Brexit were voting against marginalisation from the establishment. Now those voters will be vilified for events and policies coming to fruition in the wake of Brexit, which no doubt will be lazy front page tabloid finger pointing devoured by many of the soundbite media generation flying the remain flag.

'Cheaper' invariably turns out to be vastly different to 'better' or even its sexy cousin 'more efficient'.
A few years ago my trust changed their bin bag suppliers, the new ones cost about 30% less. Trouble was, they're so thin that the housekeepers now have to put two bags in each bin.
The same has happened, nationally, writ large with the 111/NHS direct service. The original NHS Direct was staffed with mostly experienced nurses and was demonstrated to successfully prevent thousands of A&E attendances. The incoming Tory-led coalition scrapped it in 2011 and replaced it with the largely private-run 111 which was staffed mostly by untrained script monkeys. Because call handlers were untrained, the phone script had to be much tighter and allow for little to no clinical expertise and therefore goes for the 'call and ambulance/go to A&E option very quickly indeed. In the year following national roll-out, A&E attendances shot up. The cost of an NHS direct call to the taxpayer was ツ」20 a call, 111 around ツ」8.50. And A&E attendance costs, on average, ツ」138. Austerity and privatisation is a false economy.

To summarise, the tories are responsible for both.

Yeah, it was definitely too much to ask for people to give more than 5 minutes thought to the implication of their vote.
"Lib Dem leadership contender and MP Ed Davey said: "The US ambassador today let the cat out of the bag. Our NHS is indeed up for sale under the Conservatives."
That's pretty lazy from him though - no conservatives said anything of the sort in that interview, it was the US ambassador stating what the US would put/want on the table to get a trade deal regardless of who they are negotiating with.
He might be right (and probably is) but it's a false premise to link that interview and the Tories and MPs should know better.
Actually, EU defence union is something else in addition to NATO.
Wow, interconnectedness exists, woe is us, globalisation has won and neither of us ever has any hope of being boss of the World. Might as well end it all now...

Although it is good to see an MP sharing the same concerns as us ordinary folk, and it is easier to prevent something happening by putting safeguards in place despite the form not aligning with the content rather than to try and recover a situation after the event when the players just say 'well, we followed procedure but this is how it turned out'. Remember PFI?

I'm not sure that's the point I was making. It was more that the Lib Dem MP basically made up a correlation in order to have a pop at the Tories. Loads would be up in arms if MPs from other parties did that.
On the actual subject, we are totally in agreement.

A major sticking point between the EU and US in making trade arrangements has been the opening of public services to private interests. I doubt the strength or political will exist to resist this once we're out of the EU, particularly if the economy is tanking in the wake of a no-deal exit.

Give it a rest, why not talk about football for a change? I keep forgetting this toon creation of yours is just there to cause trouble not for sensible conversation.

He's asked a sensible question.
You've decided to have a pop at him rather than answer. I think you might want to look inward rather than projecting that anger outward.
Out of interest to you have a view on the subject matter?
Yes, it's precisely what some of them were hoping for. The chance to make money in the sell-off of the UK. There will be fat fees and commissions to be earnt, plus the opportunity to short-sell if everything goes badly wrong.

Ironically enough, the only person not engaging in sensible debate is you, here.
