Lots of waffle in the media today about the unsustainability of championship football.... and how the Football League is putting together a 'working group'.
Other than the rather obvious correlation of spending a lot of money and getting promoted (though not necessarily staying up), there are one or two interesting nuggets. Living within your means (almost) doesn't necessarily get you relegated.... and Leeds and Sheff U seem to have flourished without overspending... well allegedly the same budget as Town, more or less. Bigger crowds, granted.... but they too have recent experience of where Town are now.

Football is broken.
Being in L1 is more a sustainable level for ITFC and ME - we can't afford to be in the Champ any more.
Fishy was right all along.
The sooner a few high-profile casualties go the way of Bury, the better.... football might then wake up to the fact it has a serious problem. |  |

"Living within your means" is a slightly misleading statement though when applied to a team like Leeds. For that season they had an operating loss of £20m, spending £50m. They can only get away with it because of their very high income of £40m (their comercial income is higher than our total turnover) and significant player sales that year to leave a respectable, but misleading, £4.3m loss after tax.
Now compare that to our income of £17m for the same season, and wage budget of just over half the size. That's partly why Leeds are able to compete by "living within their means" - their means are more than twice the size of ours and many other clubs in the league.
