That's what I was thinking. I seem to remember quite a few names when we chose Hurst. I personally favoured Warburton, who is doing ok but nothing special at QPR. I wonder what he'd have done with our squad last year. I also, towards the end, favoured Burley (hence my avatar), partly on nostalgia but also because he was very good with the youths, and I felt that with our lack of funds that would be the best way to go.

It probably still is the way to go to be fair. Need someone who can get on the training ground and bring through our young players into a system that suits them.

When Hurst was sacked and Lambert came in on 15:08 - Feb 26 with 1984 views | PJH | It seems that Paul Lambert was lined up to replace Hurst before the win at Swansea postponed things for a couple of weeks so don't know if that means that PL was first/only candidate.

It's bonkers that one flukey win gives a manager a reprieve (especially when you look at the stats for that game). If you're thinking of getting rid of a manager then it must be time for him to go - so just get rid. Prolonging the agony helps no-one.

Was probably more the hope that it would be a turnaround. Quite why we waited until after Leeds game rather than QPR I don't know | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I might be wrong, but I remember Nathan Jones' name being thrown around too. I know he failed miserably at Stoke with a massive budget, but I'd have been very interested to see what he could have done here on a small budget, especially after his achievements with Luton on a small budget.

Not as bonkers as getting the sack after beating your local rivals (for the last time as it stands)

That QPR game was utterly abject. Up there with Sheffield Wednesday at home after Jewell got the boot. Just utterly gutless and embarrassing.

Yeah. Quite why losing away at high-flying Leeds was a sackable offence and QPR wasn't I don't know

The performance at Leeds was also very poor despite there being seven changes from the team that started against QPR but you are right, I don't suppose keeping his job depended on what happened at Leeds.
When Hurst was sacked and Lambert came in on 18:23 - Feb 26 with 1350 views | Pecker | Micky Mouse. Donald Duck. Pluto. Bugs Bunny. Sylvester and tweety Pie. Think they wanted more money so skin flint Evans went for Fog Horn Leg Horn. We would be top of the league and on the way to 100 points/goals otherwise.
