Saw a thing this week that moved the dot along the upward curve of deaths with soundbites of what he announced that day.

At least our side they kept their mouths shut to save face. He’s made himself look as thick and ignorant as he is, but people still vote for him.

He’s winning for sure. For all the usual Trump idiocy, the measures he’s brought/bringing in outflank Dems from the left. They’ve fcked it - they all rallied and co-ordinated round a senile man who was VP in the administration which lead to Trump’s rise all to stop one man who was looking out for the left-behind.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

What’s the alternative for them though? I can see why they’d want to push a different kind of politician otherwise it’s the classic Giant Douche vs Turd Sandwich vote.

Biden vs Trump is the Giant Douche vs Turd Sandwich vote. Like Hilary Clinton vs Trump was last time. The establishment Democrats would rather lose than let the left-wing in (and Sanders isn't even *that* left-wing) as they'd be fine under Trump and would just blame it on Sanders and his support for undermining them.

The system always wins. Trump, for all he's been billed as anti-establishment, is the establishment, he's just more viscerally horrid and obnoxious. Too horrid and obnoxious for established Republicans even, but they know a winner when they see one and backed him accordingly. The cycle will repeat, occasionally seeing some super-bastard like Trump rise up from the right but unless a miraculous series of events line up at just the right time then a true anti-establishment left figure will never become the so called 'leader of the free world'.

I know it's easy for me to sit here and say this as someone who obviously can't vote in the US elections, but if I could and the choice was Biden or Trump, I'd sit the vote out. And tbh I can see a lot of Americans doing just that.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

That's incredibly damning. Biden or Sanders should just play that on a loop.

Truly impaired.

Nothing there is there. Just lies and hot air.

Despite the spew that comes out of his gob the reality of the situation is this.
Doctors are charging insurance companies more to see patients and this is being passed on to the public. There are 35 million people in the US without insurance, 25 million of which are American citizens who cannot afford to pay and a visit to the doctor will bankrupt them. The other 10 million are undocumented immigrants who will be detained and deported if they seek medical attention. The American government has refused to allow a temporary amnesty for the immigrants or relief for the poor. If you combine this with a good 20% of the population who believe a simple prayer will sole the crisis then yes, America is f@@Ked.

.... it does make you realise a form of National Health Service is pretty essential.

Unfortunately the wanton drive to capitalism since the 50s, low taxation, small federal/state government has created huge social divide, especially with social mobility and education. Infrastructure is also crumbling. Combine with the weird gun cuture and fear of government control and its not a happy mix for when something like Coronavirus comes along.

Then stick someone with extrenely bad values at the top, that then cascades a culture of fear, hate and selfishness. I mean he initially used CV to drive his wall building agenda - which has elements of a vanity project - when in fact Mexico was in much better state.

He'll get re-elected unfortunately. I think Biden has more chance than Sanders would have done, but he's still likely screwed. Had Beto O Rourke or Pete Buttigueg been the candidate then Trump would have been more beatable.

Edit: Although, on second thoughts, during a pandemic would probably have been the best opportunity for Sanders in an election, as it may make the Americans temporarily less sceptical of free healthcare.

I like Bernie, he seems very fit and lively but you cannot get away from the fact that if he were to become president he would be nearly 80. Not to be ageist but the job comes with a lot of stress, exhausting travel and not much rest or sleep. I would worry that it may be too much for him.
