Well if the stinky forriners would only let us have all the benefits of access to their markets without having to adhere to their standards, they wouldn't be in this mess. Or something.

I know it was rhetorical, but pretty much anyone not brainwashed by the brexiteer lies saw this as a likely outcome. They may well salvage something yet that doesn't leave us hung out to dry, but I'm not convinced these populist conservatives are that bothered. They'll happily wreck things for the benefit of their chums.

Anyone who voted for Brexit is an idiot and should be shot at point blank range with a super soaker water pistol and then forced to sit through every season of Geordie Shore.

It's harsh, but fair.

Truly impaired.

People blaming the EU are the same ones who said we held all the cards. Utter charlatans the lot of them, yet they'll still get voted in.

Yes, the conservative government do seem to be holding all the cards, in a game of chess.

“We would instead like to settle the simplest issues first, in order to build momentum in the talks, as time is short for both sides.”

Maybe I'm not a master negotiator but I would have thought, given the time constraints, working on the biggest things first would be a good idea, then worrying about the minor details afterwards.

Perhaps the biggest challenge is finding anything about the Brexit negotiations which could resonably be described as "simple"?

One of our leading politicians worked out from a map a while ago that a great deal of the UK's trade comes via a shortish stretch of water in the English Channel.

So they're definitely on it and we're absolutely in safe hands there.
