I think I have only been in there once and that was to play pool, it seemed like they had defied the laws of physics by getting a pool table into a room smaller than a pool table. But then I used to be a regular in The Olive Leaf when I went to the Civic College.

Very low key half gay pub, half student pub. Run by a married couple but I think it was a marriage of convenience sort of. She was quite severe and he had multiple sclerosis but was very independent. I offered to hold the cellar door open for him once (no, that isn't a euphemism) and he wouldn't have it. Had to do it all himself including climbing down the ladder to put a fresh cask on. Now if you wanted a full on gay pub with all the Ziggy Stardust impersonators The Sea Horse was your place, we went in just the once to see what the gig was and I have never felt so out of place, I suppose the greatcoats didn't help.

Get lots of university students in to their accommodation so they can be blamed when it really spikes.

It isn’t just students. The only problem I can see with Uni is students belief that the social side of things should be allowed to continue. There is a general need to restrict opening hours in pubs, restaurants etc. the guy in Birmingham who went around stabbing people was able to escape every time by disappearing into the crowds on the street, and this was after midnight.

That shows how muddled things are (I had to look it up, although it's for England so I'm not paying much attention to what happens over there) - it's 30 at the moment, and police have powers to enforce - https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/staying-alert-and-safe-social-distanc "It is against the law for gatherings of more than 30 people to take place in private homes (including gardens and other outdoor spaces) or in a public outdoors space, unless planned by an organisation in compliance with COVID-19 Secure guidance. Businesses, and venues following COVID-19 Secure guidelines can host larger groups provided they comply with the law. This can include weddings and funerals (which we advise should be limited to no more than 30 people), religious ceremonies and services, sporting activity (where appropriate safety guidance has been published), community activities and support groups. Participation in an illegal gathering could be subject to a £100 fine, doubling on each subsequent offence up to £3,200. The government has also introduced fines for those who hold illegal gatherings of over 30 people. Holding or being involved in the holding of an illegal gathering of more than 30 people is an offence, and Police may issue fines of £10,000 to those who break the law." [Post edited 9 Sep 2020 8:53]

Guideline has always bee 6 people / 2 households, but police didn't have any power for anything above that until it reached 30 people. Now they do.
