History of Marxism/Communism Reading Material. 19:52 - Oct 6 with 5442 viewsStochesStotasBlewe

As the nights draw in each year, i like to spend some of the evenings on reading projects, and would like to delve into Marxism/Communism from its early conception to the present day.
Could any history buffs/ posters reccomend some informative books on the subject to while away the dank winter nights.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

One I enjoyed: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Stalin-Court-Simon-Sebag-Montefiore/dp/178022835X/

A widely acclaimed book which gives lots of information on Soviet communism up to the early 50's and of course plenty on the Georgian poster boy himself.

Sorry for being a bit thick, when you say history of, what do you mean?

Are you looking for a summary of the influences that lead to Marx writing The Communist Manifesto and Das Kapital? I read a very good book on the history or economic theory, but can't remember the title and author. So can put some time into finding that out

Or are you looking to start with Das Kapital and The Communist manifesto as recommendations? And then how people have attempted to implement these concepts? It's incredibly broad either way. But can think about it and suggest something.

Das Kapital has to be one of the most important books on economics and politics ever written. But it is a massive undertaking to read, imo. I'd suggest that is the primary reason why most people don't read it, even though they have entrenched views on what they imagine it says.

Thanks for the reply.
Not looking so much for the manifesto/Das Kapital side of things, more to do with the influence and spread worldwide of Marxism/Communism.
Dan has suggested a book on European Communism which i will look into purchasing, but other suggestions along those lines would be very welcome thanks.
Trying to gain more of an understanding of why ultimately Communism collapsed worldwide and also the various interpretations.
Perhaps i've bitten off more than i can chew but am fascinated by this so hope to at least broaden the mind.
