Do any other teams play the odd way that we do? 11:21 - Nov 8 with 1456 viewsBluefish

With the wide players both holding the widest positions with just 1 man up top?

I don't know of any but don't follow other teams closely. I just can't see that it would work anywhere

I saw a pub team over the park..... on 19:17 - Nov 8 with 1290 viewsBloots

....the other Sunday morning, they played the same formation as us.

Most of their players we're over 15 stone and throwing up at 10 minute intervals during the game.

Their centre forward was wearing work shoes.

They passed the ball through midfield a bit quicker than we do and had a few more attempts on target than we usually muster.

They still lost though.

Lambert out.

Their fans were funnier though.

Nahh, they play with the three forwards in very advanced positions and closer together. We often have no-one within 40 yards of Hawk. And we do an odd thing where the midfielders drop very, very deep to play one twos with the centre-backs, while the full-backs sometimes push up really far.

Difficult to find an equivalent out there, but there must be one. Maybe in American semi-pro or something.

Big difference is Liverpool don't play with a tall striker (most of the time) we have an obsession about having a striker over 6feet tall, which means we end up putting the ball high into the box from the wing and nobody near to support. We need to be more like Liverpool and pass the ball into the box

Liverpool play 3 forwards not 1 forward and 2 wingers. Our 2 stay the furthest distance apart from Hawkins or Norwood as possible to give us width. It is a very clear deliberate tactic because all of our wide players do it and resort to it as a default position but it just doesn't work

Liverpool also don't have that move we've got where Nsiala floats it over Hawkins head while he's wrestling with their centre-back and then their other centre-back ushers it back to their keeper while Huws adjusts his pony-tail.

But we still have fullback getting forward and getting in crosses.

I once saw a Sunday League team on Hackney Marshes that resemble our current champagne football, although they didn’t quick have the tempo in the passing that we have, nor do they quite pass around the back four like we do.

Don’t think their gaffer played for Dortmund and won the Champions League either.

Well I don’t like to mention it too often, but now and again it is nice to reminisce.

When i have watched Lpool they seem to get several players into the box ,all too often we simply dont but when we do we do look likely to score . the likes of Edwards, Bishop, Nolan ,Sears need to be makeing those runs more often for me .

Playing with wingers stretching the pitch and a lone striker isn't particularly odd .

It's changed over the last few years as the wingback revolution has taken off, but Swansea did it did it successfully down here for years. We're just about a decade behind the times.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?
