A lot of players lacking in match sharpness plus a general lack of confidence, odd bits of link up play when we have almost done something worthwhile but nowhere near enough of it.

Burton are really poor too, which drags the overall quality down as well.

Nice to have Downes back, a couple of interceptions showing something we've missed, the one where he drove forward and played Bishop in was especially good.

Great block from Chambers late on too.

Yes....Bish looking very tidy at times.

But again...it's disjointed and only in patches. Norwood isolated.

Was about to post Downes pretty much the only one trying to move the ball with any real tempo but has only seen the ball when he's intercepted it himself.

Overall though it's the same as it ever was this season. Very slow build-up with a lot of static players off the ball, not looking particularly sure of what to do in possession.

As you say Burton being awful doesn't help the flow of the game but you've got to say a heroic block has stopped us going in at HT 1-0 down.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

The reason why we are better with Bishop by Bluefish 16 Jan 2021 14:25
Is that, apart from being our most gifted player, he is an orthodox CM playing in the advanced CAM role. When judge or lankester plays there they are forwards playing that role. This leaves little defensive cover for Dozzell to play his free role, in fact it means judge and dozzell end up in a free role and leave is with 1 in CM.

The downside is the gap to Norwood is now bigger, Norwood will roam to seek our the ball better than Hawkins but that can leave an empty box. The wide players must tuck in to be a unit of 3 up top for this to work.

Oxford managed to put 5 past them 2 weeks ago at this ground.

Whilst they are poor we really shouldn't let that affect us, perhaps we are just incredibly poor as well.
