And not once employing a football expert to run proceedings! Madness or arrogance?

I don’t think Evans was initially here for the long haul and thought he could just throw a bit of money at it, get promotion and then sell us on having been paid the debt back he bought for 20 pence in the pound at full value. He thought it would be easy and he got it so wrong.

Once he realised his original plan wasn’t going to work he just started cost cutting as much as he could and a decent Chief Executive and Director of Football cost. He just had us ticking over but that wasn’t enough to stand still and we ended up where we are today. In hindsight I think MM getting us to the playoffs was the worst thing he could have done as it seems to have convinced Evans he just needed to keep doing what he was doing and would one day fluke another shot at them.

Evans ownership can be summed up as thirteen wasted years, whatever the mindset behind them!

Indeed, buy a solidly supported club that was just outside the play offs, give the manager some money to buy better players, if that doesn't work install a supposedly better manager & give him more money. All great in theory but unfortunately Keane was palpably the wrong man.

He did.

Magilton (whom he kept in post), Keane, Jewell, McCarthy, Hurst and Lambert were all supposed to provide the expert football knowlege to make the club a success. Most of the above, however, proved unable to do that on a sufficiently holistic level, or could not do it without more structure in place. Perhaps a modern football club is simply too complex a beast for one man to take charge of everything as in the olden days.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

In the good old days tho, we had a Board, whose mix of individuals & range of expertise allowed us to make sound, balanced decisions which resulted in wonderful success disproportionate (at that time) to our size & history.

If ME had been a *really* good businessman, he'd have studied that model, thought "aha", & replicated it in some form.

But Evans isn't a businessman in the sense of having risen through the corporate world, familiar with those structures. He's an entrepreneur who started his first company at around the age of 20. Can't see from his biography that he's ever actually worked for anybody else.

In mentality, that makes you closer to an autocrat, having ultimate control over everything. It's just what you're used to.

Yep, exactly this. Bought a debt for a fraction, kept the full amount on the books hoping for a quick promotion and sale. Initially of course, I believe he charged interest on the full debt value but hasn’t done so for a few years.

Evans has been an absolute disaster for ITFC. Frankly, suspect ITFC has been a disaster for Evans.
