Having read / heard alot in the past few days about how PC likes to set his teams up I am trying to work out where a striker who plays off a partner fits in.

He doesn't. Unless Cook surprises us all and goes 4-4-2.

In a 4-3-3 that was actually functional and got players in contact with the lone striker Jackson would work perfectly well as any of the front 3.

He's going to have to learn to contribute from a wide forward role - which certainly isn't beyond him in a well coached side - and for his ongoing career would be the best thing he could do

Didn’t the recent Blue Monday podcast, with the Wigan & Pompey fans, basically reiterate he plays 4-2-3-1? Or did I get that horribly wrong.

I could swear that when he came from Accrington he had been playing wide a fair bit for them?

I reckon PC will find a way to get him to contribute within his preferred formation.

Just because PL couldnt get the best out of him out wide, doesnt mean that a capable coach couldnt.

THIS.

Always make me smile when people say "but he's being played out wide, he can't play there". LEARN it then. He has pace, if anything a wider role should suit him.

I just don't think he is good enough though, so doubt he'll make the starting XI.

The number of assist last season from that wide position suggests he's more than capable.

The coaching, for him, needs to be more on the defensive aspect of that role.

He had a golden period in the first half of last season, as the entire team did.

I would be interested to know his games to assists/goals ratio in the last 15/16 months though.

I know he's been injured for part of that time, but I think you'd be surprised how poor he's been.

That may have coincided with Norwoods fitness issues.

Its hard to get good assist stats when you dont have a decent striker in the team.

Quite right. With his speed Chris Kiwomya should have played wide. What was he doing playing centrally and scoring all those goals?

I think you have misinterpreted what people are saying.

Just like Kiwomya, if we played 442, Jackson would fit right in.

As stupid as he was, I still can't believe how Lambert public ally threw him under a bus like that.

What about if we sew it up? Will he combine with Dozzell and scorer from flicked on corners?
