VAR is terrible part 9294iu4uu4u4uu4 22:49 - Mar 14 with 1915 viewsBluefish

That Arsenal peno is a scandal. VAR destroys so many things in the game and is excused just so it can get those moments right

Totally agree. It's killing the game and it is getting saved by the fact there are no crowds. Some of the decisions would cause riots.

There are much, much worse decisions made without VAR. Just look at league one yesterday.

I can see why it was not deemed a clear and obvious error - Sanchez took out Lacazette without touching the ball in the penalty area.

His challenge had clear day light between him and the player. He didn't move towards the player, he was the one that was kicked. Terrible decision that would be excused in real time but was the point of var to clear up

It's ruining football and more and more people are starting to comment on how the Premier league is losing its mojo.

The issue is, you can garuntee that if it was scrapped some Sh1thouse manager like Fat Sam would use it as the perfect excuse when decisions go against them.

Ref gave it on the pitch, didn't he?

The bar for what is a foul, an offside, a handball is now so low and everyone within the game has been complicit in accepting it. How many times do you hear 'that didn't use to be a penalty, but it is now?'. Is the game better for it? Absolutely not.

It's not VAR, it's a bad ref on the pitch and and incompetent one in the VAR office

It's one of the more marginal calls for me so I don't think it's worth bleating about too much. The issue is that if Lacazette had got his shot off properly, I don't think the foul/penalty would have been given. Players get wiped out all the time after they take their shot, they're rarely given because ultimately they've achieved what they wanted in that they've had a shot at goal, in this case it was Lacazette's fault he didn't.

Can you point me to which bit of the laws of the game say it's okay to wipe a player out as long as they've managed to attempt a shot? I agree they often aren't given, but the idea that VAR should have overturned it and that it was a scandalous decision is really fanciful.

Lacazette kicks him. If connects with the ball properly that might not have happened.

Exactly this. VAR was introduced to overturn "clear & obvious errors", especially in game changing situations. But is isn't being used like that. It's being used to generate hairsbreadth off side decisions, where any sane linesman would decide that the players were level & to award ridiculous penalty kicks. The upshot of the latter is that players are much more encouraged to "look" for penalties by going down, as VAR will award a penalty. Don't get me started on the absurdity of the new handball interpretation, although that's more down to the stupidity of the lawmakers, although made worse by VAR.

It wasn't a scandalous decision, you're right.

Personally I don't think it should have been given in the first place, but it comes down to interpretation and frankly it was nice not to have a decision analysed minutely for 5 minutes. I think too many penalties are given full stop, many for insignificant infringements, so it's a shame the game was settled by it. But the referee had to make a call, so crack on.

Nah. It's a reasonable decision by the ref and no way should VAR be overturning it.

Managers, players, owners and pundits have been calling for video technology for years. How many times in the past have we seen Managers moaning about small decisions not going their way? How many times on MOTD have we seen pundits argue about a hair-line offside decisions that they claim is "obvious" and the Linesman "got it wrong on this occasion".

They shouted for it, and this is what we have.

It's not good for football but then so isn't the Sky TV kick off times..

In that case forwards might as well just feign to shoot and then just run in to the sliding defenders from here on

This is it in a nutshell. The entitlement is insane, even yesterday with Jose claiming how 'unlucky' he is with Michael Oliver.

Pretty sure Kane just miskicked it and got lucky that Cash was already committed to blocking the cross he thought was coming.
