Random recollected goal... 11:27 - May 20 with 1342 viewsOriginalMarkyP

I can remember being at a home match with my dad and seeing John Deehan score a belter from about 25 yards. A great goal.

Have a feeling it was against West Brom (but I could be getting confused because he played for West Brom). He didn't score that many for us. Anyone remember it?I've looked for it on youtube but can't find it.

Might be one of those childhood memories where it gets better and further out over the years...but I'm pretty sure it was a good hit.

I think he did score a hat-trick away at WBA in about 1986, never seen the goals though

Was right behind that in Churchmans.

Mark Brennan always pops up as scored many fantastic goals.

Loved Mark Brennan. Was gutted when he went to Boro.

I've consulted the Rothmans record of Ipswich 1986/87.

Deehan scored 10 league goals that season including a hattrick away to West Brom.

At home:

v Huddersfield (2)
v Palace
v Birmingham
v Bradford - which I am convinced by memory was the game with "that" goal.

The goal against Palace was a header from a Nigel Gleghorn cross from the left, so we can rule that one out.

Well Ipswich Town - The Modern Era describes the goal vs Bradford as "tremendous". However, his goal in the 3-0 win over Birmingham is described as a "25 yard pot shot" Apparently, Deehan also suffered from a break-in and family illness during that week (Week ending 21 February 1987).

Well his goal against Bradford was apparently set up by Michael Cole heading on a cross from Ian Cranson, but then Cole also played (and scored) in that Birmingham game so it may not be much help.

First game of 78-79 (?) season. Players came off for a while because the rain was so intense. Was in Chrurchmans with my Dad.

Think it was against Huddersfield. I have a much better memory for games between 83-92 than I do anything of the last 20 years.

Ian Cranson own goal at home vs. Birmingham City in FA Cup 3rd round.

Was stood behind the goal right in line with it.

If memory serves was the 1st time we were ever knocked out in 3rd round. We've done well to reach the 3rd round these days 😁

I remember that one. Town had just had some new drainage work done on the pitch and it passed the test. The ref was a bit of a character, the eccentric Roger Kirkpatrick, who was nicknamed Mr Pickwick.
So we started that season the way we finished it, by beating Arsenal 1-0.

Kevin Wilson winner at St. Andrews in the late 80s.. stemmed from a dodgy goal kick I think. It was cold and not many were in the sh1thole of a ground.

Indeed.
It is the goal i remember Deehan scoring the most as it was, i think, the last game my dad came to with me.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

Except we still had a league game to play after the Cup Final - and we lost 2-1 at home to Wolves.
