It would be a good idea to make official announcements about it.

I am sure nobody is surprised that the messaging is once again opaque. You'd hope it was just incompetence but it seems to be by design.

The pattern is clear, delay and paly down all the bad news until it builds up. It's a sensible measure and not one a rational government should be afraid of publicising.

It is also now obvious that delaying further re-opening on 21 June would be a good thing, it might only need to be for another month or so, but it's more likely that that will be too difficult a decision to make.

This is what happens when the country appoints a populist as Prime Minister.

Thérèse Coffey's line at the end of that about 'putting it on the record' was very revealing. They don;t want fingers pointing at them later, but don't want to properly announce bad news now either. utterly pathetic.

I think area(s) around Brentford are included in these hotspots, which will be interesting to see what happens with the playoff final next Monday. Are they going to let fans both leave the area and go to a public event?

Indeed, although I suspect they are also concerned with timing around half-term next week. Most people will be going on their first holiday for well over a year (hopefully mostly within the UK) and I am guessing they aren't going to announce any lockdowns until after that.

....law, so they can't currently stop people.

One of the very many mistakes made by the government is to expect the British public to be sensible.

Yet they rely on the British public to be anything but sensible to say in power.
