I have been thinking about this situation, I know, and cant help but wonder should someone who plays a harp be called a harper rather than a harpist?

Harpist sounds like that are some way to be intoxicated

Good question. The internet tells me “ A person who plays a pedal harp is called a "harpist"; a person who plays a folk-harp is called a "harper" or sometimes a "harpist"; either may be called a "harp-player", and the distinctions are not strict.
