How are things in crypto world? on 09:13 - May 11 with 1967 views | mutters | Turbulent that's for sure. Lots of value is being wiped off at the moment, but this is what crypto does. It's down about 50% from its peak, which is not normal for this. It does reraise the question about its ability to become a long-term asset and hold due to the volatility. Personally am still a big believer, it'll return, have been adding smaller amounts as it falls. It's just part of my wider investment strategy if that makes sense. It's certainly the riskier side of things :-) As for NFTs.... (i know you said crypto which these aren't)... hmmmm....

Yeah looks like crypto just won’t die (as I expect each crash). Too useful for nefarious money!

I read about how this doesn't lose money and it's even more dodgy than usual. Buyer pays a set price for each NFT but the terms of the contract say they can't sell if that value drops below the initial price only when it rises above the starting price. So, basically there is no chance to realise a small loss, it's all or nothing.

It's interesting because it is very easy to argue that they do not hold their initial value if you cannot sell them. Something that you don't want and cannot sell has not value whatsoever. I'm not expert in legalise but I would suggest that those claims are possibly fraudulent.

Well, quite. I reworded my initial post slightly before posting but it's hard to see it as anything other than a scam. Football clubs being sponsored by crypto firms is going to lead to some big losses for people who can't afford them.

When you wake up and see huge value wiped off then you do have to have a moment (and a couple of strong espressos!) and remember why you invested in the first place. Depends when you got into it, if you bought at the top of the market, then you are nursing some serious losses percetnage wise However, it's a cyclical thing with this. Some coins will die for sure, Bitcoin and others will remain.

There has to be a need to differentiate between Crypto and NFTs. NFTs, whilst I see and understand their potential, no way at this point in time to justify some of their valuations. That's a head-scratcher. People need to understand what they are investing in.

With respect, you can't reliably say that bitcoin will remain. The future of it is anyone's guess, and while historically it's probably the better known and an early mover in the crypto space, it's value has been exceptionally volatile. The circle I can't square is that despite some early mover advantage, it's not become mainstream yet and by way of transactions and lags behind many of its competitors. Despite that, it's value is significantly higher which I can only assume is driven by awareness and lind faith from investors. There's now hundreds of competitors to it, many of which are better, more efficient users of the blockchain, and thus more environmentally friendly. It could well be a massive bubble yet.

How are things in crypto world? on 13:36 - May 12 with 1509 views | midastouch | The price of Bitcoin has become more and more correlated to the stock market for a while now. Bitcoin’s Shocking Stock Market Correlation Continues To Grow: https://bitcoinist.com/bitcoins-shocking-stock-market-correlations-grow/ Take today for example, Apple is around 5% down (at the time of writing) on the day, Bitcoin is around 4% down. Although Bitcoin is still above its 200 day moving average (as is Apple) on the weekly chart. I think I read somewhere around 75% of stocks are currently below their 200 day moving average (which if true isn't a good sign)! I'm not sure what chart timeframe (i.e. daily, weekly, monthly?) the article I read was referring to though.

Yeah that's a fair point, just checked the Dow Jones and it's only 6.5% down over the last week and nearly 12% down over the last 6 months. That's not nearly so bad as Bitcoin. Bitcoin is such a volatile beast!
