Guaranteed Championship football vs League 1 football and no guarantee that we'll get promoted.
Also if he goes to Wigan I'd assume he'd sign a fresh 3 year contract which is going to offer a year longer than he's got here. If you look at it in financial and career terms it makes a lot of sense.
He left guaranteed Championship football to come here.
He's also the captain here and a massive part of what we are doing. I very much doubt Wigan, off the back of a promotion season, will be looking to tear up part of what they have done by appointing a new captain.
I can't see Wigan offering us anywhere near what Ashton would accept, given the message it sends out as a club selling our captain, and I don't think Morsy is the type to kick off over a prospective move either given he is the captain.
Furthermore, he strikes me as one of those that loves packed stadiums and big crowds.

If you remember at the time, he came here not exactly of his own freewill but because Boro told him he had to go and was surplus to requirements.
Go back and read his interviews at the time and you'll see he wasn't exactly delighted at the prospect of coming here.
Now i don't doubt he's developed a great relationship with KMcK and enjoys the crowds but I also don't think that's the criteria players make decisions on. Especially players in their 30s. If he can get a longer contract on more money from Wigan that's a massive draw for him.

I remember.
But he was also playing regularly for Boro and it was deadline day wasn't it. So if he was surplus to requirements I'm sure they'd have been leaving him out through August to force a move.
They may have decided, when we came in, that they would force him out, but ultimately if he'd refused and stayed I would imagine he'd have been back in the side once back from suspension and they'd have moved on.
It's not like he was frozen out. They just decided to accept an offer from us that they thought made sense and clearly Morsy wasn't happy here. Probably because he realised Cook was rubbish without Richardson!

A chance to return a club he knows, a chance to return back up north and a chance to return to Championship football, I think it’s a bit of a no brainer for him. Especially as Wigan seem to be spending, I can see a deal being struck for him to go.
Why keep banging on about Morsy if he's here he's here if he's not here he's not here, it will all get sorted by the new manager, he will get it right.

Unfortunately, I suspect he won’t be, no.

His agent is playing a blinder, suspect Ashton will move heaven and earth (eg new contract) to keep him. I think he will still be here.
I suspect he will be offered new terms here especially after McKenna's comments following Burns today and securing our key players. Maybe this has already happened and he is weighing things up? An additional year would see him through to 33 (nearly 34) years old on good money I think

My guess is no. If he wants to play for Egypt, he needs to get to the Championship sooner rather than later. And then there’s the geography of England. If you’re from the West Midlands, Ipswich must feel crazily peripheral. IBut it’s only a guess)

This is why I hope Town improve his contract . It sends out the right message .
