RIP Agathe 20:14 - Sep 12 with 529 viewsfactual_blue

Who died in France a couple of weeks ago.

Agathe was the mother of our French friend, and was born in Poland in about 1926/27. She had a tough childhood in extreme poverty before the war.

But it got worse.

After the German Special Military Operation in Poland, Agathe was basically taken by the Germans and ended up as a housemaid for a SS officer. She said the wife was reasonable towards her, but the SS officer was 'un vrai boche'. All her housework had to be impeccable - or else. For the rest of her life Agathe kept a spotless home

Working on the SS guy's (presumably appropriated) farm she met a young French POW called Andre. Love started to blossom.

Then the SS officer was posted to France. Andre told Agathe to head for Lucon (his home town) in western France when the war ended.

As the Germans started to flee France, the SS officer and his family were making for the German border. They took Agathe with them, basically as a hostage. At the border they let her go.

She made her way eventually to Lucon. Andre did find her, and they married, producing two daughters.

To the end Agathe was very Polish, and her French could be a bit hit and miss.

RIP to a lady who lived a remarkable life.
