Not to mention the £250m she apparently earned the year before. How any one person, or even their family, can get through such obscene amounts of money in a year beats me.

Bookmakers should be forced to take a £50 minimum bet from everyone. As someone says above the house always wins but it's not because they can't be beaten in a fair fight, it's because they ban you from offers and limit your stakes if you make money. My 365 account is limited to £5-£50 liability depending on the profile of the event. If a horse is 10/1 and it's a smaller meeting they limited me to £1 stake etc because poor Denise couldn't live if she was paid a few million less per year.

Gambling is one of those things I don’t understand, inasmuch as I don’t enjoy it, I get no thrill at all. The fact they ban people who regularly win is quite frankly off the scale - and should be illegal. The worst things are the fruit machines, not sure if it’s still the case but there is / was a maximum no of machines allowed per premises. That’s why they kept opening multiple shops close to each other. Disgusting business IMHO.

Well of course that’s fine and I understand that - but what will you win, £20? What’s the point? I think it was Rommy who gave me a dead cert once so I chucked £20 on it and it won - I ended up with £100 in a betting account that I only opened because of the tip. Problem is - I knew I would just gamble the rest until it all went. I suppose the only thing I used to enjoy was one of those prediction things where you put a fiver on 12 results and you might win a fortune. Mind you - I do the lottery every week so I’m a proper mug.

Do you go into the betting shop itself? Mate said he went into a shop this week and tried to pay by card, they then checked his account before taking the money, not sure which bookie he said, anyone else heard of this?

4 machines allowed per shop. I like a bet, but never touch the machines. A few years ago was in Ladbrokes and there was a guy losing a lot of dough on one of the fixed odds terminals, he was 4 figures deep but his logic was it had to pay soon as it was fixed odds. I tried to explain that the terminals were centrally linked so the fact some poor sod in St. Neots had lost a few grand was immaterial as the machine was linked nationally and unlike a stand alone machine in a pub. Any of you lot use Bet365 on 04:39 - Jan 7 with 1768 views | Kievthegreat | I find the Coates family an interesting case. They earn absolutely obscene amounts of money from an industry which by necessity thrives on exploitation, which is pretty scummy IMO (yes someone else would earn it if they didn't, but that doesn't make it better). I would not go as so far to say it's a positive (because it's the minimum that is reasonably expected of a moral person IMO), but they do take the vast majority of their money out of the business as salary rather than dividends and dodgy tax mechanisms (like our own chancellor and his family do). They will have paid a staggering amount of tax compared to most people of equivalent wealth, it's an American example, but Donald Trump paid $0 in income tax for 2020. Denise Coates will likely be paying well in excess of £75m. Unfortunately she seems to want to give the money she earns after tax to the conservatives, which is another tally for the 'immoral' column.

"Bookmakers should be forced to take a £50 minimum bet from everyone." ? You mean if people *wanted* to bet that much? I hope. If I were still betting, I'd be furious if denied my option to place my regular £0.50p or £1 e/w. £50 would be a massive sum which I couldn't afford to lose.

Surprisingly enough I am not suggesting the punter should bet a minimum of £50 My bet for fun stake probably works out at an average of about £3-4. Matches betting is different but there’s no risk there so doesn’t count. Although even then, the stake is very rarely over £20. Just think bookies should not be allowed to rig the casino (not literally for anyone wondering). Although if they did have to take a minimum bet stake they would likely just lower their odds so might not work anyway.

Any of you lot use Bet365 on 10:59 - Jan 7 with 1504 views | Swansea_Blue | Where do they get the money from with all these clever betters we hear about with genius systems to always win? (Tbf I’m ignorant on the subject, yet you only have to look at the size of the industry to know it’s costing people A LOT of money, and more in many cases).
