If we were in the Championship… 19:09 - Jan 27 with 4140 views | ringwoodblue | I’ve watched a fair number of Championship games on telly this season and as I have mentioned before, I think it’s better than the PL for entertaining open football. My question is, if we were in the Championship this season with the current squad, what approx position do you think would we finish? My guess would be the lower end of mid-table (around 16th) I know it’s all hypothetical as if we get promoted, we will further improve the squad over the summer but it’s often said that our system and way of playing lends itself more to the Championship than Lg1.

If we were in the Championship… on 20:10 - Jan 27 with 3896 views | LegendofthePhoenix | I like to think we'd be around mid table somewhere. I don't think there is a lot of difference between the top 3 in League 1 and the bottom half of the Championship. But a season in the league finds teams out, one-off cup games can be deceiving.

If we were in the Championship… on 20:30 - Jan 27 with 3820 views | Nutkins_Return | Anywhere from about 12th - 17th ish I reckon. Most likely 15th-16th. I think we would still have more possession then most but we would have just slightly more exaggerated versions of current issues e.g. games where we don't score enough and concede too easily. I do think there is an argument to say it could help us in some ways as we wouldn't be given the same respect with teams sitting deep so much.

If we were in the Championship… on 20:35 - Jan 27 with 3791 views | Churchman | Top six. We play in a way that’d do well in that division. I have watched a fair number of games and haven’t been overly impressed. I might change my mind by 5.15 tomorrow.
If we were in the Championship… on 22:30 - Jan 27 with 3435 views | clive_baker | It’s hard to tell, I think we would need some additions which needless to say we would do if we go up. But I think we’ve got the basis of a squad that can compete at that level, quite a few who have already played there. Clarke 20 apps for Stoke this year, Davis had a spell there, Woolf very briefly but might step up OK, Morsy & Evans have 100+ appearances each at that level, Walton isn’t far off that either. Chaplin was excellent there for Barnsley and scored double figures. Ladapo’s played at that level too, so has Edmundson. Ball was arguably more involved in the QPR side than he would be here if fit. Aluko obviously not getting any younger but he’s spent his career at that level or higher. Burns & Broadhead are good enough. As others have said I think we play a style that would lend itself to the Championship and we would be probably shown a little less respect by opponents which might suit us. Assuming it was todays squad, then I think we would stay up but not make the playoffs. 10th - 18th. [Post edited 27 Jan 2023 22:31]

If we were in the Championship… on 08:58 - Jan 28 with 2648 views | PioneerBlue | I prefer to focus on the here and now, we are struggling to get out of L1! However I would say we are currently no better than lowest quartile in the Champ. A lot of work would be required to ensure safety if we get there, several players to compete, we learnt before that relying too much on players from lower level doesn’t work, the difference is we are building good foundations and players ready or near ready for the above.

The irony is we probably have more players with Championship experience now than we did in the Championship under Paul Hurst! Probably a slight exaggeration, but he certainly went close to building a league two squad…

In fairness to Wursty we all said we wanted out of championship and he did start that process off

If we were in the Championship… on 09:47 - Jan 28 with 2463 views | BigCommon | I think we'd need more pace in the centre of the park to be challenging in the higher reaches of The Championship... I just think there's an up grade on athleticism the higher up the pyramid you go.. That could just be an assumption on my part.. I think we'd hold our own , mid table, with the current squad, and who knows? The momentum of being promoted, could push us on a bit, if we rode that wave..But, imo, both for speed of attack/transition, and also speed of recovery when getting turned over in the middle of the park, at that higher level. For me, a slight lack of pace through the middle, could be a weakness, that would be targeted. As it is, already, in L1, imo. By some teams that have pressed us well, just inside our half. Or higher up.
If we were in the Championship… on 12:17 - Jan 28 with 2228 views | FrimleyBlue | Depends on how Ashton and KM go into the summer of what ever season we get promoted Will the expectation be immediate push for prem.. if so. Then I'd expect half the squad to be replaced.

If we were in the Championship… on 12:25 - Jan 28 with 2210 views | tractordownsouth | We’d concede a lot of goals but probably just about survive due to the poor quality of the bottom of the league this season. If we do go up this year I’m not expecting us to immediately start competing at the top end though - even though the step up isn’t what it was, it’s still sizeable. Brentford in 2015 were the last team to finish in the top 6 during their first season up.

If we were in the Championship… on 13:19 - Jan 28 with 2106 views | Chrisd | Obviously, the quality isn't as good as the EPL, but with the Championship anyone can genuinely beat anyone. I find it a good league to watch too, so unpredictable. It is a difficult one to answer, as the two strongest sides that were promoted from L1 in Wigan and Rotherham, have struggled where Sunderland have hovered around the Play Offs all season. We'd certainly look to strengthen - if we went up - I'd hope we'd finish in the top half of the table and build from there.

If we were in the Championship… on 13:23 - Jan 28 with 2078 views | J2BLUE | Right now, 14th-16th. I think today we will be beaten in an entertaining game if Burnley go strong. They are an excellent side and while we are very good for league one we have a long way to go to be anywhere near them. Prediction: End to end game. 3-1 to them. I have every confidence in us to go up though, but Burnley just another level right now.

That's not the question though. Question is the current squad.

If we were in the Championship… on 09:37 - Jan 30 with 1383 views | CityBlue | I think we weren't too far off the quality of Sunderland and they are completing well in the championship with no major squad additions. If we gain promotion and continue the run into the next season we should be expecting to see us push for the play offs at an absolute minimum. Of course then you look at a major squad overhaul to be competitive in the EPL in our second season in the Championship.

It's a very average division outside of the top 2, as the league table shows. 8 points between 3rd and 16th.

We have to replace Hirst, or buy him, possibly a couple of other signings. Feel we have enough in the tank to make play offs, always assuming we go up this season.
