We planned when there. It was really easy from Krakow and there are different options. Wherever you're staying will probably sort you out and it means you can decide when to go once you're there and plan a bit better.

Be warned, it's the most important/horrific place I've been. My mate described it as "holocaust Disneyland" because some tourists don't show anywhere near the respect it deserves (selfies in inappropriate places and poses etc). It was hard not to get annoyed at people doing that when I went.

However, it's very worthwhile to just appreciate the scale of evil.

https://facesofauschwitz.com/ is also a stunning resource for those interested.

Did a tour from krakow that did auschwitz in the morning and the salt mines in the afternoon.

Don’t sleep on the salt mines. Nice to do something uplifting after auschwitz.

This.

You can arrange it from your hotel.

Been to Krakov loads of times and there is easy day trips from there. Get a budget flight and arrange your own accommodation on booking.com or equivalent. Transfer from airport is easy on the train and cheap. Stay in the old Jewish area and don't miss the salt mine or schindlers museum and if you can get in an Opera visit it is fantastic. The square is one of the best in Europe and the whole vibe is brilliant. Castle is great and if you time it with a river fest then it will be an unbelievable few days. Been to loads of European cities and it us one of the best and affordable. Leave austwitch till the end of your stay as it has deep effect on most and can spoil the rest of the stay. When I say this to friends they sort of don't believe me, but come back and agree it is best.
