So not only does Paul Cook hide from difficult press conferences, 18:33 - May 13 with 10424 viewsNeedhamChris

He hides from penalty shootouts too. Talk about showing confidence in your players. For a supposedly professional football manager that's absurd and embarrassing - if I was a Chesterfield fan I'd be livid at that.

Feel sorry for the Chesterfield fans today - but PC has well and truly found his level.

Maybe he needed to go, REALLY badly. When you have to go, you have to go 🤷‍♂️

Either that or he’s a coward.

You’d think so. Or at least you’d hope so, as the alternative would be a very interesting window into his soul.

Was he hiding though, or was he trying some minds tricks - ie, saying to his players that he’s got confidence in them and is happy to leave them to it. Don’t know, but there could be another side to it.

Seems a weird thing to get excited about, I would assume he's so invested that he simply can't watch. They've had a good season and did well today, their fans should be fully behind their manager not finding bizarre reasons to be angry at him. You clearly have an axe to grind.

Yes, I'm not a fan and think he was a very poor manager for us and has underdelivered without Leam Richardson.

That said, I don't think it's a bizarre thing to comment on, it's pretty unusual and poor management to me.

Completely agree with your first paragraph, but he was part of the journey to where we are now. Let it go. See little point hating on him now he's managing in the national league.

He also returned straight away to congratulate and commiserate, as did Chesterfield give a great account of themselves.

I don't see much to dislike about Cook. Gave his best, out of his depth, recruited some good players and we're up the following season. After the sacking he entered career preservation mode with his interviews, can't blame him for that!

Is it not notable that he didn’t hang around to watch the pens with his team? I’d say it is, irrespective of any daft tribalism between Cookie inners and Cookie outers (or whatever they call themselves). It’s also daft to hold on to any emotion for him either way. He was here not very long and was mostly average at best.

Not sure why there's this need to have a pop at ex-managers just because they're ex-managers and didn't bring success here. Can understand those who went out of their way to fall out with fans - Mick - or the media - Paul Lambert, cough - but Paul Cook was a nice enough bloke, it wasn't for a lack of trying that it didn't work out for him. Wish him well and his CV shows he's a better manager than National League level.

It’s obviously very strange behaviour - has anyone ever seen a manager do it? And pretty poor from a leadership perspective

But to push a NC side this closely all season is a good a job he possibly could’ve done

I didn’t like the constant contradictions of saying always backing the players to then lambasting them the week after. The demolition was probably a necessary evil though and out of the fire the phoenix shall rise.

I was actually rooting for Cookie today.. Felt sorry for Chesterfield, who gave it their all , by the sounds of things.. But in fairness to County, they deserve to go up with that 107pts total.
Must of been a bit strange for him, here, when everything changed soon after his arrival. And a difficult period when his father passed away. He's probably no worse a manager than 60-70% of managers in L1. Most of which would be out of their depth at a club our size, imo.
Obviously, now we've seen what KM is capable of. It's a lot easier to knock PC. Thought he was a decent human being. But clearly, and especially more so with hindsight, not the right man for the job, here.
No I'll feeling towards Cook, from me. There's probably some method in the madness of some of his nuances. That's his business, imo.

And they nearly had them. I only listened from late on, but it sounded like Chesterfield were the better side today for most of the match. Harsh innit.

I’m not sure he did enough to deserve any special treatment. Our shortest serving manager after Hurst and just as useless. Klug managed more than a third as much time as manager, and that was as a caretaker. It’s not Cook’s fault he was appointed of course, but he could have helped himself by not hanging his players out to dry. Or ranting and raving like a loon on the sidelines when he was representing our club.
