Like it. Same shape-ish, but bit more defensive with Johnson. Szmodics or Hutchinson 'central' 10? Probably mostly Hutch, but interchangeable, as left is really left-central anyway.

Good work by Philogene...... GREAT WORK BY PHILOGENE!!!

Agree. I think the central role suits both Hutchinson and Szmodics better. I suspect Hutchinson wide would be the more likely.

Happy with that. Better depth of subs for the ‘60 min’ finishers.

Chappers dropped for Szmodics

On paper they look decent, but none of that City side would get in our starting XI.

I don't think Morsy and Luongo are a Premier League quality midfield and think this will be the last we see them start together!

Could be a back three with Hutchinson and Szmodics as floating tens. But then I thought that last week too...

May be one of the weaker XI city puts out in the league. Obviously I don’t mean weak but considering who is not starting for them versus their squad and bench. Obviously clutching at any straw I can.

I think that's what we'll see - similar to the Nice game. More a back 3 with Davis and Johnson as wing backs in a 3-4-2-1 set up.

As it stands I think Morsy will make the step up but I think Mass may struggle. He’ll be a competent, though downgrade deputy when called on. So yes, I reckon you might be right that they won’t play too many more games together - and certainly Mass won’t be first choice.

Excluding perhaps Kabore and McAtee, all of their subs would walk into our first XI.

I guess if Haaland and De Bruyne never get injured and they never rest 2 key players at the same time.

When was the last time we had three defenders on the bench? Or at least two centre backs? Suspect that might back up the theory of 3/5 at the back for this game. I'd like us to have that flexibility about us even if I understand the argument that we shouldn't change the way we play. I think being able to change a bit more is a useful flexibility, and what better game to try it than this?

Yep, 3-4-2-1 or 3-6-1 as Man City call it. Matching them up.

Like I said, it’s a weaker City XI than I expected but not weak. The depth of City’s squad is staggering.

One thing to remember is that Mass struggled last season with the amount of games, and it really showed when he was tired.

We've got 8 fewer league games this year. If he can recover well enough I think he'll still play a pretty big part. Massive call to write him off as a regular.

Sky have indeed got us down as a 3-4-2-1 (more 5-2-2-1 I suspect) on the preview ticker on the Brighton -v- Man U game.

Nice to see this old horse-faced character on the Man U bench.

I would expect Cajuste to come on for him with 30 min left today. Between them, Phillips and Cajuste will mean Luongo gets less pitch time this season.

Agreed but there'll be injuries, the odd suspension, and the possibility of a three man midfield.
