A good deadline day turning into a poor one? 22:59 - Aug 30 with 2918 viewsNeedhamChris

Wouldn't be the first time this window we've spent time chasing players who don't seem committed to coming here.

Will be very disappointed if we don't get another attacking player across the line.

A poor day.

Are you going to rate all the other days of the window too or just cherry pick one?

How did you feel about day six of the window, or maybe day 37?

As I said earlier, spending over £100 mill and not even getting a third striker is crazy at this level.

Hopefully a deal sheet in, but doesn't feel like one is.

Hirst, Delap and AAH...

No-one, no-one can tell me the European market couldn't throw up a better replacement for Hirst or AAH. Major error after lots of sensible moves.

Yep, 100%.

It has been a good summer overall - not questioning that. But it's been a poor deadline day where our main objective hasn't been realised.

But let the downvoters have their fun.

Pretty sure Harness going to Derby on loan was due to the 'deal' to sign Nelson too.

An excellent window overall, but a disappointing end to it. We've failed to get in the third striker we needed, and we've weakened our attacking options by letting Harness go and then missing out on his intended upgrade.

I don’t get the sudden disrespect to Hirst? He’s been an absolutely pivotal part of our system over the past 18 months and fully deserves his chance to prove himself in the EPL which I firmly believe he will. Providing he can keep fit, I’m more than comfortable with him and Delap being our forward options. Yes ideally we would have got another one in, but I don’t think it’s the end of the world and it’s something we can revisit in 4 months.

What a wet wipe.

We're a newly (double) promoted club in the Premier League for the first time in over 20 years. Who exactly do you think is going to be knocking down our door to sign for us? Certainly no established Premier League players.

Kalvin Phillips is a coup. Don't get used it.

Our transfer window has exceeded expectations so far, and if you think it hasn't, then you're part of the moon on a stick society we have just now, where people can't handle being told "no."

He's never kicked a ball in the Prem. Neither had AAH and Delap had fleeting minutes with City.

I just don't like how green/naive our forward line is and I think that'll ultimately be our undoing.

Do we have the negotiating experience at this level to get the right players in? I am not for one moment suggesting that it is easy. Also given the lack of foreign players signing is it that we just don't have the right connections outside of the UK?

I can definately say Latte, would offer more than Al Hamadi.

I've said it was a good summer overall. However you disrespect our club to suggest that there's not a chance we could have upgraded on AAH.

Hirst is back in training soon. International break to come.

January transfer window if needed.

This has been a superb window.

I don't think it's a case of disrespecting Hirst - he absolutely deserves his shot in the Prem and has been fantastic for us. It's more that the way McKenna likes to play puts a lot of strain on the central strikers and means they are pivotal to our system - if we lose one or two we'll be in trouble. Both Delap and Hirst have had recent injuries, and Al-Hamadi doesn't look ready for this level yet. We needed someone else in to offer more resilience in what is a crucial position for us.

If McKenna agreed with you him and Ashton might not have spent the whole day desperately trying to bring in another attacker.

You summarised the transfer window into a "disappointing final day."
I am capable of reading basic English. I've been doing it for 50 years. Thanks for asking btw - I love a bit of passive aggressiveness.

I understand that you're trying to throw shade on two months of work because YOU weren't happy with how today worked out. But I guess we are in the age of entitlement.

So it seems you *were* happy with today and several of us *weren't*. That's okay, right? The meaning of a discussion forum, yeah? Or are you going to condescend us any further?

Indeed.

There seems to have been a lot of people logged on to the forum all evening with apparently no expectation that we needed to sign anyone.

In fairness to the OP, I presume he was saying it looked a good deadline day when we restarted talks with Chelsea over Broja, then seemed in pole position to sign Nelson. It became poor when we didn't get either over the line.

It doesn't detract from the rest of the window.

Quite. It almost begs the question as to why they logged on at all if they didn't anticipate or want a new striker!

For me, it's the tunnel vision surrounding Broja. We clearly got the yips ten days ago now. To not pivot then and focus seriously on overseas market feels a huge error. As much as I feel that we've strengthened *so* much of our squad this summer, I do have a nagging fear that the lack of a third striker could be the difference between us being in with a shout of being above the bottom three and marooned in the bottom three come January, and we'll be a rubbish proposition to anyone in the latter scenario.

Thanks for taking the time to actually read and digest the OP - for some reason it's grief from people desperate to take it as a criticism of the whole window even though I've not said that at all.

Exactly that.

Indeed. I can't understand why the forum was so busy it went down but nothing was expected to happen.

That's the fear here too. Obviously hope I'm wrong.

Agree on the tunnel vision, one of those situations where you're left wishing the chairman had had a word with the CEO.
