Another slightly worrying thing for me is that we don’t seem to be playing to most of our new signing’s strengths at all. It’s got an air of the title of this post about it.
Szmodics - top champ scorer through the middle playing off the striker, cast out wide left.
Jack Clarke - great cutter inside from the left as he’s shown a few times (think Wimbledon away he did it a few times, had a shot against Villa which nearly went in cutting in, Villa did well a few times cutting in), but playing as an inside forward. Also hasn’t got the same defensive capabilities and seems to forget to track back and provide support.
Leif - see previous point, Clarke affecting his ability to be used on the overlap, registering him a bit ineffective at times
Ogbene - rapid, wants to get in behind and use his power, getting given the ball to feet and not being played in behind at all really when he plays. Sort of similar to Burns in a way
It’s worrying me and I think it’s a big reason as to why things aren’t quite clicking in attack and we look a bit confused at times. I’m sure the plan is that these players will adapt, but I’d have liked to see a bit more aclimatisation after eight games gone in the PL. |  | | |  |

I'm inclined to think we have played too many of the new squad and impacted the telepathy of the group. However, we gave away silly goals last season and are doing the same this season except the opposition won't concede like they did last season.
Fix the leaks and we will do fine.
I think Omari is a marked man and lacks the physicality for 90 minutes. I'd be tempted to bring him on with 20 minutes to go when he has a better chance of flying past the defenders. |  | | |

Honestly if we didn't know mckenna and we were looking in from the outside with no previous perceptions. You would wonder what he's doing tbh.

Burns is basically traore for fulham. Biggest difference is they utilise him well at this level

Teams are Doubling up on Omari and unless we get the ball quicker to him he has no space to work.
I agree with others that Omari plays his best out on the right cutting in. Haven't really seen anything that shows his best position is at 10 but happy to be corrected.
I'll keep saying it but our right side is a bit of a mystery too, when we get the ball out there Burns/Ogbene keep turning back in instead of trying to run at defenders and make something happen. There were numerous times when it went out right and there was a runner who just didn't get the ball. We need to use Burns and Ogbenes pace to get in behind.
Dare I say it, I'm not sure the tactics/formation is working as it did in the Championship. Our mid two are under pressure and getting overrun. On that note Phillips for me is not showing what he can do but maybe that's issues elsewhere.
In short I'd like to see Taylor or Szmodics start at 10, Omari out left (replace with J Clarke at 60). Or just switch up our formation to suit the players we have.

Burns strength is the ball over the top, and we only gave him one of those passes all game, and that ended up with Clarke missing a chance my missus could have scored.
Omar's strength is having the ball played to his feet.
We're also not playing the ball quickly enough. A perfect example was Hirst. He made 3 runs towards the channel within 30 secs, but each time the ball wasn't played over to him. He immediately had to come back to be onside and again making a excellent channel run, but once again we don't play the ball over.

The two man midfield pivot has been outnumbered in several games. Adding in Cajuste or Taylor playing more of a box to box role or a No.8 would be interesting to see. Both could add some physicality and drive. Taylor's recent appearnces, including for Ireland, have been pretty decent. He has never seemed that comfortable starting in as one of the midfield pair but a freer more advanced role plays to his strengths. | | | |
