Delap…Nowhere near the finished article. 17:03 - Dec 8 with 3428 viewsITFC_84

Poor fouls given away.
Terrible game awareness.
Going to ground too easy.
Inability to play the simple pass.
Shattered by 50 mins.

He’s got a lot of learning to do.

Not a team player, rarely pass
He didn't set the world alight at Hull last season anyway

Get a grip.

The poor block is knackered because he's being forced to play 80 minutes every game because of the fact there's nobody else apart from a headless chicken that is a huge drop-off.

He looked knackered/not fit very early on.
Having said that he made some really poor decisions and kept costing us hard earned possession.
Really missing Hurst

Maybe if he just took his foot off the pedal a little, and use his brain, he may last longer than the 49min in each game

He was poor today but is being run into the ground every game. He’s often winning flickons for himself.

You're on pretty ropey ground to tell others to "use his brain" when you make posts like you have in this thread.

We all knew he's a work in progress.

Some just got over excited after some media praise.

Then he needs to develop some football intelligence. The greatest example was the second half - him breaking forward and had an easy pass to Davis, instead he bizarrely ran into a cul-de-sac, did some weird moves on the ball then softly passed it to a Bournemouth player. It was similar on Tuesday when he gave the ball straight to a Palace defender - 10 seconds later it was in the back of our net.

I like Delap. He's got great promise. I understand he's being run into the ground. But it doesn't mean he hasn't got room to grow and develop. The concerning thing is the basics are letting him down.

Poll: Who would you play at right centre back on Saturday?

Delap…Nowhere near the finished article. on 17:15 - Dec 8 with 2484 viewsChurchman

I disagree with all but the last sentence. Yes, he has a lot to learn as you’d expect at his age.

Most of the time, he’s on his own miles away from our less than functioning midfield. He puts himself about a bit as all good players of his type do. Of course he’s shattered on 50 mins - he’s running his rear end off battling more than one defender most of the time and playing in a poor team.

I don’t think he deserves criticism for what he’s done this season. Without him I doubt we’d have any points at all.

You are aware that not all players are immune to criticism.

He had a poor game. Makes poor passing choices at times and has a long way to go before he’s the finished article. It’s not a personal attack. It’s a football opinion.

21 year old in not the finished article shocker.

The problem is Hirst being injured and no-one beyond them two.

He's a lone striker in the battering ram mould.

Yep. It’s not a ‘hot take’. Poor today. Poor Tuesday night. Poor last Saturday. And thinks he’s got to do it all himself.

It ain’t a difficult one…

I don't think all the media attention helps either.

Being told he's England's future and already being linked with every big team in Europe.

Can't help to focus the mind surely...

Agree on defending Delap.

Don't agree on headless chicken. Ali has done well both last two games.

He didn't go to the ground nearly as easily as their players, who at times looked like they'd been shot by snipers!
The lad has been playing up front on his own - of course he is going to be knackered - unfortunately we do not have someone to replace him with Hirst injured
He is 21 - this is his first PL season - of course he has learning to do

Nothing clueless about the comment you posted that about...

"Maybe if he just took his foot off the pedal a little, and use his brain, he may last longer than the 49min in each game"

Experience will teach him what to chase and what to leave as it's a lost cause. Look at Vardy, 38 years old but knows when to conserve energy. Using his brain he manages more minutes most games than Delap.

You're comparing a 21 year old striker in his first full season of Premier League football and complaining that he is not the level of a 38 year old Veteran.

Jesus wept indeed.

You are actually largely correct. He is essentially a 21 years old kid, learning his craft in a team who were likely always destined to struggle. On whose young shoulders a lot rests right now. A young man giving it everything, learning in the most unforgiving league in world football. What else did we expect? The finished article? For £15mill odd? Get real. Support him, give him time, remember how well you performed at your job at 21- the finished article? I doubt it.

You are so correct, but our fans see anything that isn’t ’he’s a £100m player’ as a massive negative!

He rarely sees players around him
Control can be poor
Control is on the outside of his boot with the attempt of a spin, but fails countless times.
As mentioned, not what is classed a team player in some regards.

He’s young, raw.

It’s criminal that he’s being left up there alone with no help.

Suggesting he’s shattered, I mean, we aren’t playing two games a week, and makes runs at times that are a total waste of time. So could use his brain a bit better imo

I’m not ‘not supporting him.’ Just merely noting that today (alongside the other 2 games this week) he’s been poor, made bad choices (some of which have directly lead to goals) and is still some way off being the finished article. Is that ok?
