Contracts an issue again! 14:51 - Sep 28 with 6781 viewskizaitfc

Why would you have players like, Skuse, Mcgoldrick, Bart and Nydam with a contract of less than 12 months to run.

I understand there is t he one year add on available, but why would you risk losing any of those four.

Treat 'em mean, keep 'em keen. Everyone who works for me are on three week contracts.

It's not usually possible to have whole squad tied down long term, we are in a relatively normal position

Normal is that 5 of the first 11 are out of contract in the summer?

Our captain was running with less than 4 months on his last season

And he signed a new contract.

It's still September, if it gets past January and a lot of squad is out of contract and we are doing well it begins to be a problem.

Agree with you, ME is far too casual IMO. Yes there's the issue of us being in this division but at what stage does caution become fatalism.

Poll: Neil Young or Lynyrd Skynyrd - there is no middle ground.

I would much rather our good players were under contract, then if we were to get relegated we could sell them or keep them.

Exactly always another way of looking at things. And is the difference in the salaries of a championship player and a league one that great anyway?

The fact we have a 1 year option on all of these, means we have 2 years left in reality.

It's our decision to trigger the option, not theirs.

I thought we did. Phil can maybe confirm, but all our contracts tend to have that option in them.

Like Adeyemi is 2+1. Protection for us both ways I guess.

We generally have a 50% reduction if we get relegated - so can see why it may have been difficult to get players to sign.

Ideally you get your best players tied down - but in the cases mentioned

McGoldrick - been injured so much when would we have done it?

Bart - has got a 1 year option

Skuse - has got a 1 year option

Nydam - Needs to be, and will be surely, sorted out soon

I don't think we do with McG, think it has already been taken up previously

I think Adeyemi will get a longer deal soon if he keeps on impressing, hopefully so for a number of reasons

Not sure on McGoldrick but there are on the rest, except Nydam who could only sign for two years at 17 as they're the rules. He's 18 [at the start of November]* so will sign a longer deal then, I don't think that'll be an issue. Re Skuse, as the club looks at it they've effectively got him tied down for the best part of two years as it stands at the moment.

*Just over a month rather than next month as I initially said.

What's the state of play regarding Gav's contract? Do you have an option on him? Is he requesting a minimum release clause? What kind of ban-bonus is he on?

It's a cattle market-
If they think a player may be desired by another club they will tie him down for as long as possible otherwise it will be a negoitation in the clubs favour even down to a pay for play situation.

Key is the optional year - from ITFC's perspective, there are still more than 18 months if we decide to keep the players. It might be we haven't decided yet:

Skuse - would you keep him on as a 32 year old MF if we got promoted?
Didz - would you keep him if he had a repeat of his injury record of recent seasons starting soon?
Bart - er, I'd be offering him another 3 years now!
Nydam - he will be close to getting offered, based on performances to date - it may turn out to have been lucky that we had so many injuries!
