Any of you had to do it for a long period of time? Only ever tried short bursts and normally results in an accidental emergency stop. I was amazed it is legal.

In some parts of the world it Isnt legal. I got pulled over for it in Cyprus. Luckily the policeman was in a good Mood and let me off with a warning.

As in using left foot only in an automatic, or just left footed braking?

I can do the latter, and it doesn't take long to train yourself to the point where you don't really think about it, but I really wouldn't recommend learning in traffic!

i used to do that during winters, in my Talbot Horizon, manual choke! I did go on a simulator in the early 90's when i was working at Earls Court fitting displays. It was 'Left Foot Braking with Pente Arikula'( not sure of spelling, the Finish rally champ. They like to keep the revs up to come out of corners, absoloute nutters.

I too had a selection of ‘interesting’ cars as a young driver, one of which required heel and toe or left foot braking in order to keep the revs up as it would die otherwise at low engine speeds and often not start again.

I remember doing this back in the days of having a manual choke. Pretty damn tricky that's for sure.

I'm left footed but have only ever driven a car right footed.

Left-foot braking is a well-known trick in motor racing.

Not sure that helps much.

I tried that once (left-foot braking, not motor racing). The car stopped extremely quickly. Obviously have a lot more learnt finesse on the right foot!

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

My Dad drives a left footed car and can only do that until his disability is removed post-bike accident. Not the same I imagine.

Surely driving left footed is well uncomfortable?

The update is that this is pretty tricky. Was going smoothly until I encountered a busy roundabout and all of a sudden couldn't work out which pedal was which. I just steamed through but pretty scary.

Never had to do it but I have tried left-foot braking. If anyone hasn't tried it then give it a go and I guarantee you will stall. Just don't do it on a busy road with any traffic behind you. You can get the hang of it eventually but it's an awkward way to drive.
