At 16 we obviously made a call that he wasn't going to make the grade. There are plenty of players at that age who are nothing special that develop later and go onto be top players. Just like there are lots of players made out to be the next big thing that did nothing. If we hadn't released him he may not have worked as hard as he has to get to where he is now. Good luck to him though. Deserves to be the starter based on form, which is what Southgate was championing.
