So Visit Britain can't provide any evidence or proof the Royal Family is the reason people visit Britain.

Can we do away with the Monarchy in my lifetime please? I'd like that.

Pick your battles mate. The royal family are more popular than ever. Their popularity is only going to increase over the next decade as Harry has a few kids and the world watches the younger royals grow up.

Republicans are heavily outnumbered.

I just don't get why they exist though? The most common pro-debate point I hear is tourism income. I've never felt there was a link, nor have I seem anything that shows there is a link.

Same, although my stance has softened considerably after some decent points during the royal wedding debates.

We have a hereditary head of state, from a family we know is a bit dotty.

The alternative leads ultimately to a madman like trumpy-wumpy.

But any foolish or useless president can be voted out of office within a short period of time. If we get a fruitcake monarch we are lumbered with it.

At least it’s possible to vote Trump out or for him to be impeached a luxury we don’t have in respect of our monarchy.

I think its ridiculous that its 2018 and we still have royal families in Europe.

I think perhaps a referendum should take place when Charles becomes king to decide on the future of the monarchy - indeed a whole overhaul of the system would be nice.

I'd like to see a House of Lords which is at least in part elected, and then perhaps we can replace the monarchy with an elected president and Britain can turn into a federation to give further power to Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and English regions

There is an argument though that the monarchy safeguards democracy in terms of check and balances - that is the strongest pro-argument, the tourism one has always been clutching at straws nonsense that even if true would not be reason to keep a medieval institution in place.

One of the biggest and stupidest myths going. Paris coins it in and they had the right idea centuries ago.

I wouldn't shoot the royals. Just take all our stuff back and bring the country up to date a bit. Y'know hospitals, trains, schools etc.

Disclaimer: I know bûgger all about this and have little interest in the royals.

But....

This could simply be down to the nature of the request. Apparently this anti-royal organisation ‘asked for a copy of any records VisitBritain holds which detail the impact of the Royal Family, the Monarchy or major royal events on British tourism.’ Maybe there are no records that specifically detail the impact. Or maybe VisitBritain don’t hold them. (Eg the benefits to Winsor would be felt through increased tourist income through the town, which would be captured is overall sales figures but not necessarily isolated those just for the Royal impact).

In short, it could just be a crap request.

I liked this bit too:
“Apparently reluctant to admit the truth, the agency provided unrelated figures to do with heritage tourism and historic sites 'associated with the monarchy'.”

Boring historic sites like palaces and castles maybe?

It all seems a bit cack handed by this Rebublic organisation, who seem a tad biased to say the least.

While you can't really excuse his mass murdering in Ireland, how was it specifically different to the monarchs that bookended him?

So, like France, you want to do away with the NHS and roll out 10% health insurance tax from everyone’s salary? :-p

Are we likely to get a fruit cake as a monarch ie. George 3 not likely would rather have Wills as head of state than Barnier & Trusk
