What odd statistics 11:05 - Oct 25 with 825 viewsWarkTheWarkITFC

In 9 of our 14 league matches this season we have conceded exactly 2 goals. However, we have not yet conceded 3 goals in a match. None of those 9 teams could get a third.

So in 2/3 of our matches we needed to score twice just to pick up a point. 7 of our 11 league goals have come in three matches where we managed to pick something up (2-2 with Blackburn and Birmingham and 3-2 at Swansea).

In the other 11 games we have scored 4 goals in total. Basically, we are not going to score in a match, but if we do we will get 2 or maybe even 3!

I suppose I am looking for a small crumb of comfort that nobody has even stuck 3 past us yet despite how bad we have been. That does feel, against all evidence of watching this team, that we really aren't far away from taking points, but on the evidence of what is being served up we look (hunger and desire wise) a team that regularly loses games 4-0.

If you fail to score in 7 of 11 games the fact that no one can score 3 past you doesn't really matter. Scoring 1 tends to be enough

and some of those 2 goal defeats and even a couple of draws and the win could have been heavy/very heavy defeats.

It seems to me that the only way that this Paul Hurst "team" can gets a point or points is if the opposition become too complacent.

Dunno about that.

We look like we have no idea how to score a goal, there's no build up, no plan of how to build an attack, hence the isolation of strikers, we don't get bodies into the box.

I agree. But what really stands out is that we have not played a settled back four or even a settled goalkeeper, the defence has been largely terrible, we are bottom of the league and yet nobody has put three past us.

That has to be a silver lining of sorts. Much harder to get clean sheets from letting in four and five every week than where we are.

Scoring is another issue. At least a clean sheet would get us a point. Seems easier to stop conceding two goals every game than to start scoring two every game.

We have very good goalkeepers and two goals is generally enough for the opposition to win anyway.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Warky, I pointed out to you and all others regarding the lack of goal shrews scored. This won't change at ITFC, it's Hursts way of playing football. Our defence despite some individual errors and not knowing which 4 will play, isn't that bad.. The problem will always be under hurst scoring goals. This isn't going to change when he let 48 goals go and brought in Jackson, Harrison and Nolan, We have no goals in our team. our set pieces are rubbish and when was the last time we saw a freekick go directy in?

We will prob go down with one of the lowers ever goals conceded figures for a bottom of the league club. But we will certainly have one of the lowest ever goal scoring figures.

Waka waka eh eh
