IF they find whoever responsible they should get the death penalty. I know the UK doesn't have that, but they should bring it back for this special instance. Thousands upon thousands of people disrupted because of some idiot. End him.

You've been the states too long Illy :-)

Suspect the public clamour and literally 1000s missing their holidays will mean a tasty jail sentence though. Upto life imprisonment for endangering airplanes...

I'm finding this very odd. And feel for all families it effects.

But the devil inside also thinks what a genius the owner of the drone must be to be able to fly it over Gatwick and have the Amy. The police etc with no idea where he's standing with his remote.

Surely.... Follow the bloody drone back to its base. How can it be so hard?

The working assumption is there is no ‘base’ (they are in a vehicle) and there is more one drone and more than one operator.

So yes, it is a bit harder than you’d think!

not really. couple of ways

1. drones work off a certain frequency in either the 800, 1.2ghz, 2.4ghz (most common) and 5.8ghz frequency. id suggest it doenst take the military long to find something transmitting on that frequency, lock onto that signal and off you go

2. when you get a sighting, lob a heli up with a thermal imaging system (most police coptors have them) .. find the heat source emitted from the drone. lock onto it and follow it. when you find the culprint, follow it around with said heli. preferably armed with a couple of hellcat missiles

3. setup a low level radar on the airfield, pick it up that way

but im sure some clever soul has thought of all this.

One poor woman missed a close friend's funeral. Absolutely dreadful, I imagine there'll be other key moments such as births & weddings that have been missed too. Whoever's doing this clearly has no compassion or feeling for his/her fellow human beings - what a pschitterbuugger :(

thast was my thought tbh. why not hit LHR as it will be bigger impact. that said, the m4/25 surrounds heathrow so i suppose there are less places to hide, as opposed to gatwick/crawley
