Anyone seen this on Twitter - @FootballerGay?
An account, which seems to have a had a load of national press, stating that they are a gay Championship footballer looking to come out. That they have met their club chairman and manager and want to make announcement when all is ready.
A few interesting tweets explaining their decision, and yesterday posed 24.07.19 which indicates announcement may be made on Wednesday.
Major thing that jumps out about it to me was wondering if it was ITFC then remembering we aren't in the Championship. |  |

Interesting. One thing that stands out to me is that he only came out to his family a few days ago but is prepared to come out publicly so soon after? I hope it's true. They would get massive support and it would stop clueless journalists suggesting football fans somehow aren't ready or willing to accept a gay player. |  |

I sincerely hope it really is a Championship player. Would be a wonderful ice breaker for football in this country so we can move on.

Absolutely. The majority of fans will Police the morons, but unfortunately it'll take a while to eradicate the 0.01%
Even against Rotherham last season I heard a Town fan use the 'N' word at one of our own players. Black players have been a huge part of football for 40 years.
I don't imagine homophobia will take as long but I bet in 15-20 years you'll still hear of isolated incidents. I am inclined to think this is fake too. I'd imagine any player planning to come out would do so without all of the build up. There will be immense publicity anyway.

I think it is a very good hoax.
I hope it is not.
An openly gay footballer in the English leagues would be a huge step forward (although it shouldn't be at this point) and I'm sure would be beneficial to many fans and potentially other players to follow suit. |  |
