Ipswich Town's sorry league record 10:53 - Oct 19 with 2806 viewscarlo88

I know we haven't enjoyed a promotion for 22 years now and thought it might be some kind of record, but I was amazed how much of a record it is. Out of all 72 EFL clubs we have the longest period since a promotion by seven years, with the next worst club having to wait 15 years. Anyone guess who that is?

Arsenal haven’t won a promotion in over 100 years. They didn’t win that one either.

Rochdale?

Just dropped out of the EFL but Oldham's is 31 years.

Not sure why but I find it staggering, if I've understood correctly, that every club has celebrated a promotion since 2007? Would've thought there would be plenty that have either only seen relegations or sat at the same level in that time.

Aren't we 1 of only a handful that haven't been to the new Wembley too?

In answer to your question I'll say Derby. Or maybe Bradford?

I didn't include Premier League clubs as a lot of them have obviously had no promotions for decades. No, it's not Bradford, Rochdale or Derby (although Derby are the third worst).

Without looking and giving it 5 seconds thought I’ll say Blackburn. Relatively confident actually…..

They got promoted back up from league one a few seasons ago.

I thought Blackburn but they were in League One recently.

Derby is definitely 15 years as their awful prem season was 07/08 and they haven't been back since.

Blackburn had a promotion from league one only 4/5 years ago.

I’ll pump for Carlisle. Seemed to have a long spell in league one followed by a now long spell in league two

Actually it's 16 years for the second worst, not 15. Derby are on 15 as you correctly say.

Had to be a lower league side, my next guess was Shrewsbury, feels like they live in this league.

Incidentally Bradford and Rochdale were both promoted in 2014.

Colchester is also an answer, they just randomly popped into my head and I had to google, last promoted to the Championship in 2006.

Can you make mine a Kwasi photo please.

Well spotted, there were there in my database but I forgot to include them.

Presumably time in the Premier League counts towards the 22 years, so if Everton get relegated then our record gets smashed.

I know that you said EFL so Carlisle's promotion back to L2 from the Conference wouldn't count, but, in terms of the promotion "feel", that we haven't really got near during your stated period, it would have been right up there for the Carlisle fans - a well-supported club in their remote locality.

If we go up this season it wouldn't be too dissimilar for us in that we have had to go down in order to enjoy the up. Although even them up the rud can say that many times over recently, if they want to own their participating past.

This is an excellent Banter Era factoid. More as or when you have them please OP.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!
