As great as it is we're doing well, this is way off the benchmark of the quality that is the Championship these days. Much like with all the games this season we've gotten away with some absolutely horrendous mistakes which a Championship side would punish, and did many times last season, its just the likes of Wimbledon, Doncaster and Gillingham simply don't have that quality to score those goals. We need to be realistic about what's happening this season, its great to go up and win some games on the way but we'd have to invest a fair bit to make sure we'd stay up again and Evans doesn't have the money to do that.

I wonder if out average performances are to do with the players realising they only need to put half a shift in to do well at this level. Celtic have an incredible squad for their league, yet they rarely actually win 3-0 or 4-0 every week.

Exactly. I simply cannot believe some people.

We are top of the league unbeaten after almost a quarter of the season, a clean sheet in the last five and are winning even though the team isn’t playing at anything like 100%. The fans and club seem to be reconnecting, our support is very good in terms of numbers home and away.

After relegation it was absolutely vital we challenged for promotion straight away.

And yet I’ve seen and read a number of supporters criticise the team and Lambert.

But we are playing poor opposition though. Aside from Sunderland, Peterborough and Doncaster they've all been absolutely guff. That's not a reason not to enjoy the winning run, people are saying we're not even in third gear yet when the reality is we're in 1st gear and doing well but we're not exceptional and no one is in the third division. We may not like to hear it but we'd be eaten alive in the Championship right now, there's far too many mistakes in the defence and we're still not that great up top either. It's an unpopular view but a realistic one.

That'll be Luton who are higher placed in the league than us then?

We're getting a bit ahead of ourselves worrying about how the team would be doing in the Championship at this stage.

Quite apart from the fact we haven't won promotion yet, it also doesn't take into account other factors such as confidence (which can be damaged by upheaval and losing, restored by winning and stability) and raising our game to match the standard of the opposition (which we're not having to, often). There's plenty of time next summer to be preparing and drilling the squad for the next level above, including possible changes of personnel, should we be heading there.

We don't have to be demonstrably Championship-ready in September of a season in League One.

But we won't be playing in the Championship for a minimum of ten months.

What does it matter?

We need to get promoted. Simple as that.

Slightly different in that we've played very weakened sides in the cups for some years now, including since PL took over.

Yes but if you ignore all of the facts, things like rotated teams and one off cup games etc then he has a point surely? If you don't agree then you are just a troll and trying to spoil the wonderful work of Lambert
