3 League 1 'rival' clubs after Donacien 13:32 - Jan 21 with 2720 viewsitfcjoe

According to Andy Warren in the EADT

Looking for a loan deal until end of season, ITFC unlikely to sanction one

Not for me, especially with KVY out.

Cover at RWB and cover for Chambers at RCB.

Unless we get replacement FIRST, not after.

I'd be tempted to let him go out on loan. PL doesn't fancy him and if we aren't playing with a flat back 4, Donacien doesn't fit in. Hoping that KVY isn't too far away from a return, I appreciate that Edwards is walking a suspension tightrope, however could Cotter cover if necessary? He's certainly more dynamic than Donacien as an attacking threat.

No chance surely?

Back up RB and a CB option if we get injuries. Precisely the sort of deal we should not do with so much on the line. I doubt Evans or Lambert will allow it anyway.

Truly impaired.

PRP doesn't like him though, it clear from the start as it was with Harrison. I'd keep him unless we can recover a fee for him but if anyone offers money then let him go.

Lambert clearly doesn't rate him, think we'd be fine without him with what we have in the squad and think we still want to add another CB

My thoughts too. We’re starting to play well, players playing in their normal or favoured positions we’ve got a system that is working, but if Donacien plays we’d have to change the whole formation for 1 player.

Why would we have to change to accommodate a full back playing wing back more than we would for a winger playing wing back?

You not seen Donacien’s limitations as an attacking threat? He couldn’t play the role Edwards and KVY are being asked to play by PL. He’s a defender, who defends, that’s why he’s better in a flat back 4 with a winger in front of him.

Edwards can't play it either, hence he has the most yellows in the league and has been lucky not to be sent off on a few occasions.

Would be OK if he contributed assists going forward but he hasn't really so singling out Donacien as limited in that position seems harsh.

Assuming that’s a tongue in cheek comment. Edwards has been decent in recent games and has provided some good crosses into the box. He’s a winger by trade, they don’t normally tackle that great full-stop. He’s doing fine in his current role, he’s keeping it warm until KVY returns.

No, it's taken over the season rather than cherry-picked over the "recent games".

He can't tackle, he should have been sent off at least once, probably twice in my opinion. He has the most yellows and is about to miss a number of matches.

Interesting that you ignore Edwards defensive aspect of the role to support him essentially ignoring half the position but don't treat Donacien equally. For him you focus on his attacking being poor and ignore that he's a far better defender.

Weird if you ask me.

If nothing else it shows there's a market for some of our waifs and strays, which is encouraging. Hopefully that interest will remain at the end of the season :)

Edwards has done ok as a RWB since things have settled down - before that he has played LWB, RB, RM, LM so no surprise he has struggled a bit.

With Chambers covering as RCB then personally think Edwards attacking abilities are more useful to us in that role than JD's defensive abilities. If we want to solidify things we could play Woolfie at RWB and bring Earl in if there are no other signings.

I don't think JD is that bad, but it's clear as day that Lambert doesn't rate him so no real point him being here

You can’t post rational comments like that and also suggest that Edwards has done a decent job especially recently with his attacking threat. They aren’t going to like that! 😉

Or you could address the actual points made which are perfectly rational? You could go further and explain why you don't apply the same criteria to different players if you like.

Edward isn't awful but neither is Donacien - both for different reasons - one which you dismiss and one that you don't.

Likewise I could say the same to you, making a sweeping statement that Edwards hasn’t contributed much is a very weak argument. The fact that our current formation doesn’t suit Donacien, which I posted earlier, as he is a defender first and foremost and lacks a natural attacking instinct says it all. In a back 4 he’s fine, but we’re not playing that system and that’s where the problem lies.

I'm not sure I'd go with a loan. Doubt he's got a future here so if somebody isn't coming in to buy him I wouldn't let him go. I don't see what a loan really does for us given he's potentially useful as a reserve.

Saves some wages rather than paying them to a player the manager won't use unless it's a last resort - why he went out last year I guess.

I don't think he is that bad and fact he isn't total disaster of a player saves him a bit here, but his transfer with all it entailed with a 3 year deal and subsequent career must go down as one of our worst bits of business ever

He is in a bracket of relatively expensive players that we then loaned out quite soon with Martin and Priskin, enough said

I don't think he's that bad either but I'm aware that plenty of people do!

Think they'll keep him as cover. Lambert will see it as being far easier to retain cover, even if he's not massively keen on the player, than try to get Evans to bring some in.
