Good not to lose sight of other most serious issues - and would be nice to think that our planet will be a slightly better place in a year's time!

"Humans have produced 8.3bn tonnes of plastic since the 1950s with the majority ending up in landfill or polluting the world’s continents and oceans, according to a new report."

I can't even get my head around what that might look like collectively.

Whilst I realise it isn't a bacterium, there would be a delicious conundrum if the coronavirus devoured plastic.

About 9 cubic kilometers, or enough to cover the whole of Suffolk to a depth of 2.4m.

Would this not create a huge amount of microplastic which itself is a problem. The ultimate solution is to recycle all plastic and plan to stop producing it in the future. Single use plastic is a scourge.

Break down as in digest, turning the plastics into something else, ideally leaving us with by-products which will naturally decompose or are not harmul to the environment.

I always loved the twist that H.G.Wells put in War of the Worlds.
All our technology was useless against them but they they were defeated by our bacteria.
