Former academy keeper..... 16:17 - Aug 21 with 1255 viewsitfcjoe

.....Nick Hayes has signed for Salford City if anyone is interested

I've said for a while I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up as a 'one that got away' but not had a good year or two

Hes got a fair way to go to be seen as 'one that got away', but good luck to him. Could be the next Nick Pope.

He's the same age as Harry Wright, and was much better when he was here so the release was baffling....

But Harry Wright isn't deemed ready, or Adam Przybek, whereas Nick is starting the season as number 1 for a promotion chasing L2 club - a big jump from spending last season on loan at Hertford Town in step 4.

Not denying that he may be better than our 3rd and 4th choice keepers, just saying hes not quite in the 'one that got away' category just yet.

...not saying that wont change in the future.

That’s a good move for him. Salford City are certainly a club on the up, it would be good for him to be part of that journey.

Vaclav Hladky might have something to say about the #1 bit now.

I wonder how the cap affects Salford especially. They are not well liked at all beyond the BBC luvvies who use them for a bit of content it seems.

Think there was a genuine hope/fear they'd just spend their way up and up and see how much disruption they could bring to the pyramid.

Would be baffling if that's my closest away game soon.

Maybe because his dad didn't play for the club? We currently have 2 sons of former players on the books and the son of the head of recruitment too. This kind of thing happens in football, people get given favours for who they know.

To be fair on Wright MK2 he actually looked pretty good the other night, seemed to have a cool head under pressure and actually some neat footballing skills and decent distribution. I can't say that about many of the keepers we have had here in the last decade! Even Bart had his moments and he was our best keeper since Wright MK1! Now playing for Millwall...
