Spoilt for choice, too many options is part of the problem.

I think this reason played part for the rotation policy last year, trying to keep everyone happy is kinda impossible and obv as it turned out had a detrimental affect on the cohesion of any team PL picked!

From our squad as it is you could probably get two individual teams that if played together week in week out could both do well in this league!

I can't say I'd enjoy selecting a team from a big squad!!

We really should be playing two up top. With our squad we should have plenty of possession and 2 up top will pull the centre backs around

I like the look of this as a starting line up. I think the El-Miz and Dobra's have a role to play but I'm not sure they're ready to be considered as starters.

Huws was awful last season, but I have a lot of sympathy given his injuries, you don't come back from 2+ years out overnight. The break might've helped him, and I wouldn't be adverse to having him instead of Dozzell, but I like AD's ability to pick the ball up off the back 4 and if we're intent of playing that shorter style then we need someone in there that will really look after the ball.

And someone who will look for the ball from the 2 CBs to get us playing.

Mentioned on the podcast last night (available from all good outlets) that for all fans criticism of Mick and his style of football, he was first and foremost a pragmatist and would play style he felt would get best out of squad.

He set us up on the opening day of the season with Andre, shortly after his 18th birthday, sitting in front of the back 4 and picking the ball up off them and getting us playing. I can't remember him ever giving another player that responsibility in his time here which is a msasive badge of honour for him.

Yeah, totally. That's what I mean by taking the ball off the back 4. It's all very well berating individual errors but they're much easier to avoid if you have options. Chambers was at fault vs. West Ham, that was poor, but he didn't really want that ball and didn't have anyone showing for it. Dozzell has gone missing for long periods in the past, and in a central 2 he's a little lightweight, but he's got a good brain on him and if he's got the licence to sit a little deeper and start creating that's really his bread and butter.

Your team has Lankester in for Jackson vs. my preferred XI. He's definitely a good option in that wide role. I think Jackson's pace is a great weapon, I would like to incorporate him.

How long until we replace Chambers though? Can't afford all his errors.

Yep, I'd like to get Jackson in there - such a shame we haven't had Norwood or Hawkins fit to even play a minute and see how Jackson does in a wider role as think for both him and us long term it would be a smart move.....he's not going to climb the ladder as one of a front two

I don't see that we will this season, in an ideal world we'd have signed a long term replacement for him this summer to take over by the end of this season.

As an experienced manager (and I have just taken Boston UNited to the Premier League so I think I know what I am talking about) , I can say that as long as the club is winning most of them will be sweet.

I wouldn't rule out a world where 1 or 2 more of those sort of c0ck ups and Lambert might opt for a Nsiala / Woolfy partnership, at that point it's Toto's opportunity to properly claim that position. I'm not sure Toto is any less prone to errors the Chambers, and I still have images of him unnecessarily and clumsily clattering into opponents in the box to concede a penalty, but from the pre season I've seen so far he's looked more composed.

You don't actually have to properly defend in pre season though, there aren't the battles you need to win physically where players like Chambers will look more accompolished than Toto flying around. I still expect Toto to go if we can find anyone to take his wages on - it seems to be forgotten how much of a disaster he was last season.

He played 3 league games and didn't make the start of the 2nd half in 2 of them due to manager having to take him off before he was sent off

I guess, as Clive says, how he does in a run of 4 or 5 games may force PL's hand. The odd error here and there is to be expected, but more than that can't be.

I posted some stats yesterday, but think our defence and Chambers in particular seem to bear the brunt for last season when in reality they and he were decent enough - a couple of terrible games aside like Lincoln and Peterborough.

Played 36 Games

Clean Sheets - 13 clean sheets
36% of games, only 4 clubs with better percentage - Gillingham, Oxford, Coventry, Peterborough

Failed to score - 13 times
36% of games, only 4 clubs with worse percentage - Tranmere, Shrewsbury, Bristol Rovers, Bolton

We scored the first goal 14 times
P14 - W11 - D3

We conceded the first goal 15 times
P15 - W3 - L12

But fingers continue to be pointed at the defence, and Chambers in particular - when realistically with even a half decent attack we'd have easily made the play offs.

If the attack gave the defence anything to defend they usually did it and got us over the line. If the defence conceded first we might as well pack up and go home as the attack couldn't ever get them out of trouble

I'm not adverse to Chambers, hence he's in my team. I think it's also important to remember pre season is only pre season, it's a) pretty meaningless and b) we won't be facing Haller and Son every week in L1, far from it.

That said, I wouldn't rule out Toto getting something of a reprieve this season if Chambers does have a rocky patch. With Ward in there now I think Chambers is more drop-able than he has been previously.

Have we played enough pre-season friendlies this time so that a first 11 is still not obvious ? Hopefully all the other teams in this league have done the same.

Ideal world is Toto out and replaced with a left footed more ball playing type CB to give us 2 stoppers and 2 players and a better balance amongst the 4.

I do wonder how mentally damaged Toto is here, because it seemed like he'd be in line to be paid up to go it had gone that badly last year

I’d start Ndaba, drop captain calamity.

Yes he’s young, but Woolfie has lots of first team games under his belt, Ward is the old head we need back there.

We simply cannot afford to play Chambers, as unpopular as that thought is on here, he will cost us many more points than an inexperienced, but very talented Ndaba would.

Ndaba couldn't get in the Chelmsford or Hemel Hempstead teams in the Conference South last year - he needs to get out and play some football to learn his trade as a centre back

Pair Woolfie and Ndaba In the two early cup/ trophy games and see how it goes but play a strong team in both games.

If the youngsters are good enough age doesn’t matter.
