... and who dislike the current Government. How do you square those with each other? I'm sure you go to work every day passionate to help people as much as possible but do you ever feel completely demoralised or frustrated because you don't think you have enough time/resources etc to really make a tangible difference? Obviously lack of funding, outsourcing etc can be traced back to those in power.

I'm asking because when I graduate in July there's a high probability I would end up in the NHS, but while this lot are still in power I'm not really sure I want to go there. Especially with the Gov's shambolic handling of the last few months, I'm not inspired with confidence or a particularly strong urge to work in a NHS hospital setting.

Do you ever think along the lines of 'f*ck this, I want to go somewhere elsewhere'? Any other relevant answers are also welcome.

I should add that this is intended for people in clinical roles, but other areas would also be interesting to hear about.

1. I'll still be there after the current shower have gone.
2. Yes
3. No, because private work is frankly, somewhat dull(but an easy earner if you're doing bank work) in the main. Then again, I have an odd, hyper-specialised job that essentially gives me pretty much carte blanche to manage myself most of the time.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Thanks for the response. How do you feel about the prospect of them being re-elected and in power still in 8-9 years' time? Is there anything which would make you leave the NHS?

I'm trying not to think about that.

My wife is a nurse in the NHS and this government makes my p1ss boil. I think a lot of people that go into nursing etc. do so because they want to help people and make a difference, so it could be any government running things and that wont change. That's certainly the case for my wife. Don't get me wrong, we all want a competent government and a well funded NHS.

To be fair, there's probably millions of us working in the private sector that have dim views of senior management.

Most of the people I know who work in the NHS do it for the love of the job and the satisfaction, and whilst they feel aghast at how the govt operate, on a day to day basis they try to keep focused on the job in hand.

*Unless you're one of the TWTD Forelock Tuggers. In which case, you'll only want a competent government and a funded NHS if it starts offending lefties.
