Only 72.

A super goalkeeper, the odd clanger aside. Unlucky that he kept for England in the era of Shilts, but still a mighty impressive haul of caps.

Trailing vapour since 1999.

"You're in safe hands" was the slogan on the side of his delivery van business in the mid 80s. Let's hope he is now. RIP Clem. A fine man.

He had a long battle against prostate cancer.

Not being old enough to see him play for Liverpool I can remember see him playing once at Portman Road in a 3-0 win for Tottenham in about 1984.

Won plenty of medals while at Liverpool.

Lucky enough to meet the great man a few times. For me, the best England goalkeeper of all time. What a fantastic man. R.I.P. Big Man.

Fantastic. I was with the Liverpool fans a few times in that era, they love him. I know Shilton got more caps, but for me, Clemence was the better keeper. Most keepers would struggle to get a hand to some of his saves, yet he would get both hands on it, get up and roll the ball to Phil Neal. What an absolutely brilliant player. Yes, that gaff against the Scots at Wembley, but should be remembered for all the brilliant performances he put in.

He always seemed to be there when I first got into football.

Goalmouth seems kinda empty now.

R.I.P.

I’ve just realised that’s him going back as a spurs goalie, should have clocked the blue shorts.

That’s brilliant.

We were blessed with keepers then. Phil Parkes is another one.

Poor sod. It got my grandad in the end, but he was in his mid-80s when diagnosed and made it it 93 (I think). He was walking their dogs twice a day religiously up until his last year. 72 is no age really.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

RIP

A top class keeper in an era when there were several very good keepers about.

I’d still have him as the third keeper in the squad just in case we got to a penalty shootout.

Arguably at least the equal of Corrigan, even if Shilton and Clemence were just that bit ahead.

On the bbc news story they played a montage of some of his saves, one from a certain J. Wark I think in front of the lop.
