Ref pubs needing to have a meal for a drink. What if you drink soft drinks? Can you visit the pub for those or are you still required to eat?

Yep, fine to visit for a soft drink. Essentially its a measure to discourage people getting smashed and getting silly in what would normally be Christmas party season I suspect.

Mark Drakeford the Welsh Labour chap has gone one step further, alcohol banned in pubs and restaurants there and they have to close at 6pm.
