Covid in Suffolk 17:15 - Dec 13 with 6247 views | BanksterDebtSlave | Anybody else get the distinct feeling that the virus has reared it's head in sleepy Suffolk over the last week? Hearing of more and more in the Framingham/Saxmundham area. [Post edited 13 Dec 2020 17:20]

I'm not sure it is just that tbh, though it plays a part. I'm hearing about loads more cases now, particularly in schools, and on a scale that I wasn't aware of at all in the Spring.

Far more testing now than in the Spring.

I hope you don’t go the same way as us, as it’s exploded here through the schools. We shut them all on Friday in the Swansea area but it’s two weeks too late.

Covid in Suffolk on 18:11 - Dec 13 with 3443 views | davblue | We’ve just been notified today that my boys school in Oxfordshire has finished for the year as my boy is in reception year and there has had a positive case. He now has to isolate for 14 days from Friday until Xmas eve. We’ve cancelled our plans that we had to try and protect others in case he gets it then we do. So we are essentially in isolation now, it’s a surprise when you hear the news but this is the first case we have had since September, so we’ve been very lucky.

They should update that advice to 10 days isolation tomorrow. SB
Covid in Suffolk on 18:18 - Dec 13 with 3415 views | Ace_High1 | Not seen much more myself and as others have said we are seeing increases but that is from what was a lower base. The situation has not changed and mixing indoors is the worse thing you can do. As I have said all along we should cancel Christmas, it really does not matter and get through to March and more and more vaccines. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I know lots of schools around here (including my son's) that have at least one year group self-isolating whereas previously it'd been a rare thing. Hedingham school closed completely last week and are now doing online learning until after xmas, I've just seen the latest figures for that area and they're sitting at over 700 cases per 100,000 so it shows once it spreads in schools the whole community has a problem. I have a feeling Essex will be going into tier 3 at the review.

Unfortunately I am in Essex myself , hopefully with the schools breaking up for Xmas tier 3 won’t happen and with the Xmas relaxation coming in is there any point in going into tier 3 , secondary schools should not be open , they are breeding grounds for Covid

I can see that happening - Vaccines being administered will inevitably lead to significant numbers of people thinking life is back to normal and there is nothing to worry about.

The other factor to consider is likely massive supply chain disruption thanks to Blue Passports And No Foreigners January which will effect upon vaccine distribution big style.

I see Mr.ProjectFear is on the case again - Get a grip! Because we're not trading with the EU under the old rules we're going to home grow all the vaccine and Johnny Foreigner can't have any. No doubt the EU will manufacture another virus and send it over on a boat soon so they can mind control us into accepting their rules and bendy bananas and eggs. God save Farage.

But schools are COVID secure, boris said so. But there is little evidence that transmission occurs in schools, Williamson said so.

Around our way the 2 secondary schools have had year 11 outbreaks so finished for Christmas as of Friday and just heard of a case in an under 5 at a playgroup so that has shut too.

To think that 9 months ago we were authoritively told schools were not a risk for transmission! ..... and people swallowed it.

Oh come on now, let's not pretend that this line wasn't guided by science and happily parroted by many on here! https://fullfact.org/education/covid-19-schools/ "All four Chief Medical Officers in each of the UK nations issued a statement saying: “Our overall consensus is that, compared to adults, children may have a lower risk of catching COVID-19 (lowest in younger children), " They added that where transmission of the virus to staff did occur it was more likely to be from another staff member than a pupil and that while there was some risk of transmission from pupils to their families and the community, again, outbreaks in schools were more likely when transmission in the community was higher anyway. Amazing how the science has backtracked over the past nine months. There were a number of unfortunate assumptions made, especially in the early days. Covid cases are up across Suffolk, in the last 7 days, over all districts except Babergh, although overall cases are lower in West, Mid & East Suffolk. https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/interactive-map [Post edited 13 Dec 2020 20:09]
